Ive been seeing more and more older coinage being passed around. I hit 7/11s and Stop-n-Robs daily during my work day. Ive noticed more and more quarters mainly from 1960s being passed around, Most are 1965 and up, but Im sure some pre-64s will come thru. As people get desperate, they will start raiding their change jars and this older stuff will start showing up.
On a side note, if your one of the desperate people raiding the change jar, take a look at the dates. pre-64 quarters are worth about $5bux, so take a minute and check the dates. |

I bought a cup of coffee about 6 weeks ago at a local Stewarts shop (coffee stop and rob) and when they handed me my change I heard a distinctly differnt clink in the exchange. Damned if the gal didn't just hand me a pre64 quarter. Hadn't got one in years. |

Ask at your bank to keep odd ball stuff for you....one girl at the bank holds old folk rolled coins for me......when ever I make a good find.....I either give her a gift certificate to a restaurant....or send over a few pizzas.
I got 4 red seal $2 bills a few weeks ago.....out of $200 worth of $2 bills....sold all 4 for $30 (they were in good shape) Best find was 48 rolls of quarters......2 were all pre 64.....and found 44 more in the rest of the rolls....split with my dad. Our bank has free change counting days for the kids bank accounts.....one of the big sorters.....I don't re-roll. |

Honestly curious here and not trying to be cynical or derisive, but exactly where do you take a pre 64 to sell it for $5? I know a little about a lot of things; a lot about a few things, and absolutely nothing about coins, their value, or the markets for them. Regards, Greg |

I got a 64 quarter in my change at the Wendy's on Peach St in Erie PA a couple of weeks ago. I asked the clerk to check her drawer, I bought 5 more quarters off her at face. It was a good find. I had one in my change from the same place about a year ago as well, there weren't others in the drawer that day.
Maybe I need to go there more, if anyone else is in the area I would suggest hit that place up as well. I can't be the only one getting this stuff. |

Any coin dealer, any jewelry store that deals in silver and gold coins, online at silver/gold retailers, or even better yet, here on the EE. pre 64s are 90% silver. Damn, that is good to know! Thanks for taking the time to expand on that, I really appreciate it. So if they're worth $5 to a coin dealer, they must be selling them at a higher margin then? |

I've found silver in my change twice: a pre-'64 quarter and a war nickle.
I'm still getting OK results with $500 1/2 dollar boxes, averaging two 90% or 40% silver coins a box. Downside is I have $2,000 is cupro-nickle half dollars that I don't want to turn in, fearing it will come right back to me sans any old coins. |

Wne thru my change jar last night....found a '64 quarter.
Question....what is the weight in silver for a pre '65 quarter and dime edit...NM...this is cool....http://www.coinflation.com/coins/1932-1964-Silver-Washington-Quarter-Value.html |
| My wife works at a gas station and has been bringing home a pre '65 quarter about every other week, and that's just from hearing the sound when she puts them in the drawer. Wish she had time to look em all over real quick because she would probably find a lot more. Can't beat paying a quarter for $5.50 worth of silver. |
