I don't know if this a dupe, but the people in the documentary have some good ideas and look pretty squared away.

Doomsday Preppers

Enjoy it if you haven't seen it.

First off, i dont prep for the same reasons as any of them... but anyway thats not what matters.

although none of their plans were the best, the last guy seemed to be the best survivalist as in he was willing to change his life to survive. I do think that unless he moves into his tube that he wont be inside when the nukes drop. His plan to go to the tube when we get nuked is plain stupid. how is he going to know when to go, before the nukes drop? i bet he is planning for the nukes to drop somewhere other than his AO, then he can get to his tube/cabin.

the first family is living the prepper life, they practice it every day. as long as their neighbors and other bad guys dont kill them they will be fine. I think they need to incorporate the neighbors into their plans or at least get a couple of families on their side, so that when shtf and everyone leaves town, some of the neighbors will stay behind and they will form a compound right there that can be defended. If they try to go at it alone, they are dead. you cant reason with hungry people on the outside when you are getting fat on harvested tilapia. they will burn you down even if it means destroying your food, just so you cant have it. its the "if we are going to starve, then so are you" mentality.

the two couples with the BOL farm have it made too. this is my style of what prepping should be. I dont have preps like that, but i agree with it. The show producers dont know what they are talking about. that compound is off the beaten path and is not a target unless a group is scouting the area. they have the guns and the training to defend it. they have the fuel covered and the food, water. They also have the family bases covered with enough children to help out around there and not be a burden. the men have the women for support and a reason to want to survive too. they could live there just happy as a pig in shit for a good long time.

the other family, the one with the wife who wears the pants, well i have nothing to say other than i feel sorry for the dad. prepper or not they wont make it long.

If there is a path/road/trail/whatever, to a BOL, it's already compromised and it WILL be found/explored/compromised and likely ALREADY HAS BEEN and has already been INCORPORATED into someone's 'plan'.

If you have preps and more than only you know about them, then they are likely compromised as well, with exceptions, temporarily.

Then it is a matter of duration and intensity of the 'event' that will determine the degree of threat and action to your BOL and preps.

Don't kid yourselves folks. [of course I know this is falling on mostly deaf ears]

The bigger YOUR plans and prepared resources, the BIGGER your opponents' plans for YOU.

[Patrolling, what a joke!]

Actually I thought everyone did a pretty good job those the story was about as well as the show suggestions.

The entire idea of a "Hermit Survivalist" is flawed from the concept.  We all may have to do it temporarily but in the long run isolation only leaves us vulnerable.  Now that doesn't mean you have to have an "Open House" or some crazy thing like that, however being part of a community and friends who are part of the community not just fellow hermits is a good approach.

Depending on Opsec for survival is like trying to survive a war by hiding in a foxhole.  Eventually a bad guy is going to stumble on your hole and then you become a target.

Now where these folks can pick a scenario, a worse case, and it will cover many scenarios, community isn't quite that easy to address.  What and how is extremely time and scenario dependent.

Despite without a doubt the last guy in the video having the best shot at crawling into a hole and hiding, he understood this.  He has a cache on a neighbors land.  Despite a very low profile, handicapped with a traveling job, and his BOL not a permanent residence, he's taken steps to network and be part of community.

For most of us this doesn't mean we have to have caches or make provisions for our neighbors but simply knowing them and them knowing you is a step in the right direction.

It didn't surprise me the first family with the covered pool jumped on the suggestion.  Hearing them talk about laws in their community, I'd say they were thrust into it head first and probably have a lot of first hand knowledge of how not being can cause you problems even in good times.

Very true but I did get the distinct impression they were a tad candid on the whole self defense thing with the video crew.

The whole talk of what was legal and naming the goats kind of was a clear indication, they'd had a bit more intrusion into their privacy than they let on and though I may not agree with their one scenario planning stratagem, they sure didn't strike me as stupid either. I sure wouldn't be taking any bets that all that fellow has is a hollow handle knife, a 22 lr, and a box of shells.

I like how that one lady talks about opsec and having deliveries at night so no one knows, and yet there she is on tv talkin about everything.

Very interesting show.

On the families in Phoenix and planning for BO on foot... seriously? You're in a desert, you're not going anywhere on foot with small kids in tow. It's just not happening. It's by vehicle or nothing. I didn't agree with the "experts" chastising them for that one, really. To be honest, think that if you live in a large desert area like that and you are faced with BO without a vehicle, you're probably just screwed. That's just the risk you take living in a desert, I suppose.

Pretty good show, though.

That was a fascinating show, but boy, did they look vulnerable. So they showed a few neighbors what they were doing? Great idea.

How do you know that is really their house or their names?

Plenty of vacancies around here to rent for a week to shoot a show....

Nobody can be prepared for everything but at least these people are increasing their odds in general by prepping for a few things and getting their heads into it early.

The woman has posted on several other forums about the filming of the show.  The delivery of the supplies at night was staged by the producers for the sake of tv and that they were never told that an "expert" would be critiquing their preps.  She said they were filmed giving some general head-nods or facial expressions and that was used later for responses to the experts opinion.  As far as her own opsec, she was already in the process of moving when the show was filmed.

Overall I thought the show was pretty infomative and well done.  It definitely presented preppers in a little better light than most of the mainstream media does.

One thing that I disagreed on was in phoenix where they said they had limited ways to bug out.I lived there for years, and I would not be hittin the road to get out. There are endless possible routes through the desert.

He's not completely clueless.  When he's stuffing his BOB, you'll notice he slips in what looks like a box of ammo and a cased pistol.

Thanks, OP.  I don't watch TV, and I'd been wanting to see this after it was mentioned in this forum.

I was actually impressed with presentation.  It seemed the show was taking the whole premise of survival seriously, as opposed to showcasing lunatics.
