I have been down in NM for training since June and will be coming back home near the end of this month and start working patrol. I have only lived in ND since Feb of this year bought some gear I thought would work and tried it out. I found out that the military boots ICW I bought work great only problem is they don't breath to well and there not the most comfortable boot to have on all day.

So I'm wanting to ask for any advice on a good boot. I have been looking at some of the hunting boots like the Cabela's Alaska Hunter. I work as a LEO on a Res so I'm in a rural area. Any advice would help thanks. I asked about the color of the boots to my Sgt he said as long as its not something crazy like camo. Brown or black is best he told me. Any advice?

Are you looking for an insulated work boot or a pack boot? If you're doing winter in NoDak, can you do some flavor of Sorel Conquest?

I was stationed in ND for 5 years. Best set of boots I owned were Matterhorns. They also offer some with safety toes if that's something your interested in. They aren't cheap, but they are a necessary evil when it's -35 outside.

ETA: These are the ones I had.

I have a couple of pairs of bunny boots.  Got them really cheap online (not stolen, surplus, un-issued).  Nothing better IMHO for winter foot wear.

Kind of both I'm going to place the pack boots in the back of the squad a long with some other cold gear in case I have to track someone or have to do traiffic

I was looking at them I mostly buy high end boots and I know a good pair of boots are worth there weight in gold. How are they with fit? I wear a 9.5 wide and the closest place that have a pair to try on is 200+ miles away so it looks if I'm going to get them it will have to be online.

I wear a 10.5W boot, when I bought my matterhorns I bought an 11W. It's nice with winter boots to have a little extra room to allow for thicker socks if needed. Since you wear a 9.5W I would say to go with a 10 or 10W. Maybe try calling around to the different dealers and see what they recommend.
