This may have been posted in some form or another, but I thought I would put this out again.
I read a post a short while back with questions about how long some oils and grease would keep, so I sent an email to Crisco. Here is thier response. August 23, 2011 Dear Mr. ........... Thank you for contacting The J.M. Smucker Company. We always enjoy hearing from our consumers and are pleased to know you enjoy our products. In response to your inquiry, our Crisco® Shortening has a 2 year unopened shelf life. Once opened, we would suggest using the product within 1 year. However, our Crisco® Baking Sticks have a 6 month opened shelf life. Thank you again for your interest. We hope that you will continue to enjoy our products for years to come. If you should have further questions or need additional information, please visit us at www.crisco.com or contact us at 800-766-7309, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Sincerely, Dena Consumer Relations Representative |

I bought a bunch of Ghee when there was a large sale. Supposedly lasts forever. ..... but tastes like ass. Definitely an acquired taste. I'm hoping Tahini is more palatable. Um, Tahini is basically sesame seeds ground up...definitely not going to last as long as ghee and while I guess you could pour the oil off the top to cook with, that doesn't seem very useful. |

We used Crisco that was 5+ years old before. Has a little after taste but it will last longer, if stored cool. |

Yes it is the safe answer, but it also lets us know that the company puts a two year shelf life on the product they produce.
I know now from the manufacturer that I can store a supply of cooking grease for at least two years. Kind of gives me a little more of a secure warm fuzzy feeling in the preps. |
