When my daughter was 5yrs old, the construction industry was going great guns.
I set aside a chunk of cash in the safe for my princess' "needs" moving forward.
By never touching that cash in 13 years, I was able to fund:
8th grade dance dress.
4 winter formal dresses
Prom dress, hair and make-up, limo and trip to an amusement park the following day.

She'll get the last $1k as her HS graduation present which will be a complete surprise to her and her mom.

I imagine that these funds could have been invested or used for other things but the smiles we got as each occasion have been priceless.

At many points along the time-line money was really tight so we would have had to say no...and she would have understood as she really never asks for anything near what her friends have.

Happy Dad

I have SHTF prep money, and then I have cash I set aside for whatever, but dont really use.

I guess there is not too much difference in them, but one I hope I never use, and the other I
dip into once and a while for hunting or fishing, or quick weekend vacations.

Good on you for helping her out.

Your foresight and commitment (love) has let you purchase and create memories with your daughter that are priceless.
When you give her the $, tell her how you did it, what was necessary to make those moments happen.
That will be another gift you can give her.

I have started a small stash of Silver American Eagles for my grandaughter. Your story makes me want to add to it.
She is 3, so I have some time...

Don't take time for granted, when she was 6yrs old I came down with Lymes disease, we battled through a year of pain and no income. Fortunately, I collected high end bolt guns before she was born, .My wife and I sold a bolt gun a month to pay the bills.

I've replaced enough of them over time but a couple are just to rare to consider looking for...
