I've seen several threads where people mentioned water ruining their supplies or the power going off to a freezer and ruining its contents. Some people may not be aware of it, but they make alarms which can let you know when water gets somewhere you don't want water, or when the power gets turned off to a freezer or other appliance.
Other warning devices are available for smoke, fire, carbon monoxide, radiation, severe weather, and even motion and light sensors when you want to control access to some areas. They make it a lot easier to monitor things. |
