I've been stocking up on Ivory bar soap off and on for a while now, but never really put it to the "max" test of using for everything.

I've used it for the following and it's worked great in every aspect:

body washing
shaving (works MUCH better than foam in a can)
hair (CLEANS it, need to use conditioner with it)
under nails (prior to getting greasy)
spot wash clothing (prob work for entire laundry cleaning)
"liquid" soap for hands etc (leave small bits in water and shake)

Haven't tried on dishes yet, but I imagine that it'd work ok, that's coming next.

and FWIW one bar lasts quite a while, can be stored in a small space, reasonably light weight, and has multiple uses, all of which sounds great for mobile use in various bags as well as bug in situations.

thought I'd pass along my findings, feel free to add uses if you've done it

Depending on your needs, it should have a fragrance free option.

There's something about the smell of clouds of Ivory scent in a crowded WallyMart that are nasty but admittedly MUCH better than the alternative of no soap at all.

I'm just saying that i wouldn't want to be track-able by my soap/B.O. alone.

I agree, but I've got to think I'd have a lot of other priorities if I were being chased/tracked enough that I could be picked up by scent, and if you're talking dogs, soap/bo/garbage stink, etc it's "the" smell they are after and once they have your shirt (like the movies etc) or your orig scent, you're going to have trouble masking/changing it no matter if you were clean/dirty or whatever.

It's very nice/comforting to be able to eat with clean hands, and approach crowds if necessary, to blend in with clean clothes and clean shaven etc

if you are worried about being tracked then keep some red and and black pepper in a small bottle.  i store palmolive and ivory dish soap - palmolive i have used for years to wash my hair because it is a great grease remover and it keeps your skin soft also works great to shave with. bugging in liquid dish soap makes sense - if you are bugging out some air dried ivory bar soap makes sense.

at one time, Ivory was the only soap around and it was used for everything.

ask your grammy's or if you are still young, your great grammy.

I prefer Ivory also - wish that the Costco would stock it.
not sure if the best for the scalp ....?

during our last hurricane, we used Dawn to wash hair for reasons stated above (it's what we had)
Dawn was quite potent, so we didn't shampoo like normal.
maybe Palmolive - remember that it's supposed to keep you hands soft

I grew up using Ivory soap & have tried some others... but I keep going back to Ivory. It's good stuff.

That Bronners Castille bar soap lasts forever and is good stuff. Just a little chunk is fine to take on a packing trip for clothes/hands/body.

My grandpa keeps a bottle of Windex by the bed for the same reason.  Wake up with a cramp –– just a squirt of Windex and it's gone.  He used to play tennis and he swears Windex cured his tennis elbow.

Reminds me of that movie"My Greek Wedding" I think. Windex for whatever ails you.

Ivory floats, too. I've taken more than one bath in a lake out camping and floating soap is a good thing!

Soap is also a reasonably good lubricant for stuck drawers or windows, just rub on the glides or window frames.  Also good to lube wood screws.  I've heard, it relieves insect bite itching, but haven't tried that yet.  Also good to rub on the bottom of pots and pans when cooking over an open fire for easier cleanup.

Hell I've successfully used it for catfish bait.

If you are looking for one soap that does it all, that would be it.

If you know how to make a minnow trap from a canning jar and the top cut off a 2 liter bottle, it makes good bait for that also. You can also apply a very small amount to a squeaky belt in a car and it will quiet down.

My GF is allergic to all kinds of things, including many widely used chemicals.  Ivory bar soap and liquid Ivory dish soap are just about the only non-speciality soaps that she can use, without them she must buy expensive hypo-allergenic stuff from Whole Foods.

I made soap from lye and bacon fat a year ago, I will never buy soap again, this stuff works, it's harder and lathers better than the soft water filled junk from the store that melts away in a few weeks,  I'm only on my third bar.
google for recipe.
