This has been something I've been thinking about, but it seems to be one of the least likely to be solved problems for your average Joe.
Although not as important as other meds for heart conditions, or diabetics, it is something that makes my life easier with hormone stabilization and stress management for the wife, not to mention the savings on feminine products. Currently she has a little implant under her skin in the inside of her tricep, said to last 3 years. Her first one only got her a little over 2 but it was worth it none the less. Are there any other ways to keep birth control for extended times which will maintain the usefulness of it? |
The ancient Egyptians used cervical plugs made from crocodile dung. I don't know about you but that pretty much kills it for me.
The really interesting thing will be what happens when the millions and millions of Americans on Prozac and other head meds run out. I've been around folks coming off of that stuff in a controlled staged manner and cold turkey. Sex will be the least of your worries if your wife is one these poor devils. |

There are very few long term options for birth control under primitive conditions. Not to be too graphic in the Survival forum, but the rhythm method fails often, and oral sex is not widely practised in times and places where soap is of limited availability. Having lots of children in primitive conditions can be life threatening for women.
In spite of some common fantasies among male survivalists, sex is not going to be a high priority activity for TEOTWAWKI. Steve |

The ancient Egyptians discovered the contraceptive sponge. They took pieces of sea sponges, soaked them in lemon juice, and placed them where a diaphram would go.
Almost as effective as the Today contraceptive sponges that were such a big part of the "sponge worthy" episodes of Sienfeld. In fact, the Today contraceptive sponges are back on the shelves of your local big chain drug store. The little swimmers get lost in the in the nooks and crannies of the sponge, where the acidic lemon juice kills them. Simple, but effective.... |

Then why did my grand parents have 14 kids during and after the Great Depression. Everything I hear of those days were that families were huge by todays standards. |

Quoted: Quoted: I can't get laid now, so I'm not going to worry about it after the SHTF ![]() Gun nut survivalists are going to be in greater demand after the SHTF. Good hunters will be the new athletes and blacksmiths will be the new doctors. But what about the old doctors? No nookie for us? |

The biggest side effect of SSRI withdrawal is suicidal ideation, i.e. you start thinking about is as a serious option. In TEOTWAWKI, it will be a self correcting problem. |

This thought/worry has crossed my mind lately. My wife and I don't worry so much - I got snipped about two years ago and am reaping the rewards |

You wouldn't lose status, but others would gain some. |

I can picture me trying to explain why I'm going to put a sponge soaked with lemon juice up her cooter... Too many hygene/disease/preggo issues with sex in a SHTF world. I'll pass and take the monastic path. |

well, after EOTWAWKI we are going to need to repopulate soooo........ ![]() Turgidson:
Doctor, you mentioned the ration of ten women to each man. Now, wouldn't that necessitate the abandonment of the so called monogamous sexual relationship, I mean, as far as men were concerned? Strangelove: Regrettably, yes. But it is, you know, a sacrifice required for the future of the human race. I hasten to add that since each man will be required to do prodigious... service along these lines, the women will have to be selected for their sexual characteristics which will have to be of a highly stimulating nature. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvaB6-Zi_-A&feature=related |
