Son-in-Law just sent me the photo, don't even know if it's a hiefer or a bull calf. ETA2, it's a bull calf. It's a hiefer, my SIL's Mom needs a lesson in boy/girl parts.

We've got three more due any day now.

I just don't think I could eat that.  I would feel shitty about it.  I know it has to be done, but I never feel right about it...  even with my chickens.

She probably won't get eaten any time soon, as we plan to add her to our small herd as breeding stock.  We're trying to breed show quality club calves and she has good lines.  Her mom is a Leroy Brown daughter and her dad is Total Solution.  If she turns out as good as we hope, we'll keep her to breed.  If not, she might be coming to a steak house near you!

Really? Boy I see a steer in our pasture and see that chart they have in the butcher shop...you know, with all the cuts listed...

That is exactly how I visualize them.

Yeah I'm a sucker for animals.  I know this because who else would keep 4 GSDs in their house...  I feel bad about killing something I gave feed/water to, gave shelter/heat, and taken care of when sick... just have a hard time with that.

Now wild animals... I have no problem shooting, gutting, and processing a deer or small game.

Growing up on a farm the cuteness wears off real quick once they have stepped on your foot, kicked you, or gotten out of the pasture in the middle of the night.  But this is coming from the kid that would not eat pork for a year because his pet pig was butchered that year.

I remember our first couple well, on the first I told my daughter when she got home from school, there was a farm cat missing and we should go back on the golf cart and look for it and there was Nicky, (his mother was Nicole and her sister was Paris) named by my daughter Goodtimes but....yea like the other post said the cuteness wears off quick when they start bawlin and shitin They learn quick what a pump sound like on a pellet gun

Right there with ya but, it's easy to take those nasty creatures to auction after watching them shit, piss and sleep where they eat
