Think of this more as a public service announcement.

When we think about stocking OTC meds, we usually think about pain relievers and such.  As I learned last night, however, Benadryl is something often overlooked.  I had a moderately severe reaction to some antibiotics and severely broke out in hives and my hands swelled like balloons.  I couldn't figure out why I kept itching and when I looked in the mirror at 0200, my body from the neck south was swelling up.  My throat was also swelling closed but at a much slower rate.  3 rounds of Benadryl later and the hives are gone but my hands are still a little swollen and itchy.

Point being, if you or someone else is having an allergic reaction to something and 911 isn't there to give you epi, you better have Benadryl or something else handy.

Thanks, good advice.  I will put that on the list of OTCs to buy before Jan 1.

Generic Benadryl is an important med with many uses.

It's really cheap at W-M and is packed in a nice standard sized bottle like the rest of their generic meds.

Try to get a bottle of everything.

I expect the shelf life is in the decades.

Cipro lasts a very long time too.

Medical savings plans.  Isn't this going away with the "new, improved" healthcare law?

I should add that Benadryl can also treat coughs, insomnia, motion sickness and involuntary muscle movement (I forget the medical name).
