Looking to see what people have done as far as preps around their home and property.  Could be 12' thick perimitter walls, or planting of a living fence, maybe you've dug a well by hand or recently learned how to make 550cord bracelets.

Basically what project are you most proud of or that's gone the furthest towards make you more self sufficient.

Here are pics from my water tank project:

Replaced a 1,200 gallon poly tank that was getting close to the end of its life with a 3,00 gallon tank that I paid $599 for new.  Got the labor done free as a "thank you for serving" favor from a friend of a friend, who I found out is a prepper as well.

Old tank:

Pulling up with the new tank

Unloading the new tank, good picture for scale:

Moving it the easy way!

in place now:

Good post.  Is this plumbed in line with the water for the house or what?  Where does the water come from/go to?

How many gallons do those propane tanks hold?  I just picked on up that size for cheap and haven't filled it yet...

Its inline between my well and my pressure tank, so it is constantly self rotating.  Hooking it up that way requires an additional pump to pressurize the pressure tank, but since I was replacing a smaller set up, that was already in place.  I can bypass the aux pump and use gravity to pressurize the lines.  Only gives me about 3 gpm out of the lowest faucet in the house, which would go away as the pressure drops, but its better than nothing if we lose power.

Most of my preps have been along the lines of losing weight and getting back into some kind of shape. Getting your personal life in order is far more important than any gear.

I took up hiking as a hobby that supports that goal and have been blogging about it and the gear I use.

I don't see that as any kind of OPSEC problem.

I am planning to do some camping next year, and I will probably blog about that and the gear I use.

Some preps I am just not going to talk about all that much, other than perhaps in a very general way. Others, I probably will.

What's the scoop on the PTO generator as far as the operation of it.  Do you use a meter at the generator to set the PTO speed to a certain RPM or is it not necessary?

Great pics, Ops!

Although, you should SERIOUSLY look into more ways to do a very cost-effective Soil Amending project for your garden!

HOLY COW!  It looks like you're gardening in Class-2 aggregate or something!!!

Lay down a crap-ton of soil amendments, peat moss, fertilizer, then till it under!

Then run a season of 'Green Fertilizer' crop, and till that under...  Keep tilling it, and cycling it deeper & deeper into your soils over the years - your planting soil will then become infinitely more enriched for growing a variety of crops!

there's a voltmeter on the control box facing the tractor.

Running the engine at rated speed is usually close, the voltmeter is for fine tweaking.

My current project is much smaller and less ambitious than what most of you guys are working on-but it needs to be done:

The three middle shelves in both of my ammo cabinets at home are starting to sag (again), despite all my time and effort spent reinforcing them with angle iron a couple of years ago

Fortunately, I found a pair of these on Craigslist two weekends ago. They were used but in mint condition

CJan, I was going to say that your old ammo closet with the bent shelves is out of character for you.

Then the second pic makes all well in the world again.

Carry on, and congratulations on the fire lockers.

Those lockers are great.....fill them with sand and they have a substantial fire rating.

Note: fill with sand....then set a portable radio inside playing fairly loud for a day or two.....then top off the sand.....When I got one for work....the sales guy told me to do that.....the sand level dropped by 6+ inches....

Not to be a dick, and just playing devils advocate here ( I could care less if you post pics of your stuff and I actually enjoy looking at others stuff) but just realize that most newer cell phone including BB's and Iphone record and attach GPS info to a pic taken on them.

This info is available to anyone that pulls up the Exif file date from the photo when it is posted on line. You have to actually turn the GPS function off seperately atleast in the Iphone to keep it from attaching to the pics, even if you have the GPS function turned off for the phone.

So if you post photos off of your cell phone you could very well be F'ing up your OPSEC. I think it is Google that you can punch in the EXIF info and it will pull up a Google map of the location.

Learned about all this stuff in a one of the last computer forensic classes I attended.

Moral of the story make sure the EXIF file GPS is off on your cell phone when posting on line.

There are some high end digital cameras also that record EXIF GPS data too.

Hope this helps,
J-
