So I am looking at a portable 12v transfer pump to use for gathering water or in my BOV. I live within a mile of a large aqueduct, so if water distribution through city lines ever comes to a halt, I figure I can take a couple of 55 Gal drums down in my trailer and use one of the batteries on my truck to suck up the water into barrels. Then I could take it home and filter it before using it to cook/drink/etc. Also since I live in the desert, my bug out route would involve long travel (200-300 miles depending on route) through the desert. If this is in the summer, water availability will be a major concern. My plan is to put some barrel in my trailer, fill them and use them along the way. If I come to any water sources, I can use the pump to refill my water supplies. Anyone use one of these pump? The reviews on Northern Tool were about 50/50 on their pump. I am also looking at one made by Little Giant, but it is twice as much. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_16817_16817 ![]() |
| I don't know what brand Northern Tool had, but I've run Little Giant pumps at work. Granted, they're 120vac, but they make a good solid pump. Never had motor problems and they've ran 24/7 for years. Only real problem we've had is the actual pump head parts(impellar and shaft) wear out after a while, so make sure to have spares on hand.
