[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Trunk Gun, anyone carry one? (Page 1 of 3)

Thinking of doing something with a little more bunch than just the .45 under the seat/in my holster. Shotgun or rifle, something simple yet effective.
Been looking at the Mossberg JIC (Just In Case) kits. Maybe not be real pleasant to shoot, but it's much easier to fit into the budget than other options. Anyone's thoughts? Pics are always appreciated. |

Firearms I already own that fit the bill (kind of looking for an excuse to buy a new gun anways 16" M4 AR Puma '92 .357 20" barrel...that's already my saddle gun of choice though Exwildlandfire, who made the spur? Set of E.Garcia that I got for graduation 22 yrs ago.... One set of quite a few....My family and I are like magpies.... http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp357/exwildlandfire/bridle.jpg With that pic, now you're just showing off. Class gear and mount all around. |
| Mosing Carbine w/SKS bandoleer filled with 100 rounds in strippers. This rifle costs about $69 when I got it. If someone steals it it wont hurt me too bad. in a firefight with blackrifle weilding zombies I lose. other than that I am good to go. Thousands of Nazis died proving that it has its place as a SHTF rifle. |

My thread, we can Hijack it if we want to. Good looking buckaroo type gear. I'm in north central Idaho, in the land of Qualey silver and Ray Holes Saddles. I assume you're in southern Idaho by the gear...but the pine trees are confusing me. |

i like the idea of the keltec being small, but would want more power. been thinking real hard about doing an AR pistol as a trunk gun I'm with you on the power, but the price of the AR pistol is maybe a little high for me atm. I'm surprised at how few shotguns. Anyone have input on that? |

The main thing I don't like about "trunk guns" is that vehicles are a prime target for thieves and not very secure. Personally, I never ever leave firearms of any kind at my office or vehicle for any extended period of time. Just my opinion, man.
Bring 'em inside with you at night, especially. |

I want to but the fear of some piece of trash stealing it from my car prevents me Q-F-T. I've already had guns stolen from me once, don't care to have it happen again. The chances of needing more than your CCW gun (which should be strapped to your ass) are pretty small in daily American life. We aren't at the point where we need to be driving around with a rifle full time-though I understand and occasionally do myself when I travel to my rural property. I hate to be the buzzkill, but the practical question is this: What is more likely to happen to me: Will I be witness to Red Dawn/Zombiepocalyps, or will my car/truck get broken into and my belongings picked thru by a lowlife scum who will then sell my gun for pennies on the dollar where it will be bought by another scum to settle a dispute in a parking lot where an innocent bystander gets shot? My advice? Leave your piece on the mantle, your CCW gun is enough. |

If the trunk gun in question is an old Mosin, the correct answer is Red Dawn/Zombiepocalypse... |

i like the idea of the keltec being small, but would want more power. been thinking real hard about doing an AR pistol as a trunk gun if you want the compactness plus more power, then look at kel-tec's su-16 series. they fold, but are chambered in 5.56. some of them have space in the stock for either two ten round mags or one 20 round mag. iirc, one model can even be shot while folded. |

In the summer time when I have the soft top on the Jeep, I don't have anything in there. When the hard top goes on, I throw a Marlin 30-30 under the seat with 40 rds in the back.
The laws in this state are attrocious, but i feel relatively comfortable with this set up. As long as the ammo is separated from the gun, it's legal too. |

Another vote for a Keltec Sub 2000 here. It folds into a small, beat up backpack. It also uses the same Glock mags as my pistol. I was looking for much punch but this is getting more and more tempting. If I owned a Glock I'd be even more excited. Keep in mind... the 9mm fired out of the longer barrel of the Sub2000 has almost the same muzzle energy as a .357 Magnum. |

An old shitty shottie would be my go to. I would not go with a pistol in any caliber. I am assuming most of us would already have a pistol. If I were to reach for something else it would be a shoulder-fired weapon. That being said, I don't use a trunk gun for fear that it will get stolen. I don not fear loosing the gun. I fear for the next victim of the stolen firearm. To sum it up...
