the synopses of that whole thread seemed to be to run Truecrypt on a generic thumbdrive.

I have had a couple of the little "key chain" drives and nearly every one of them has sustained some kind of damage. I guess I'm just hard on stuff. They all work but it's not very reassuring. I am wondering if there is some kind of a "vault" I can put one in, like a match safe etc...Not anything too big but that would provide some reasonable protection.......

Corsair makes toughened flash drives:

(I don't own one but all the reviews I have read have been positive).

Also remember, two is one and one is none, never store important stuff on any drive without keeping a backup.

I just ordered one of the Corsairs from an Ebay vendor. 16 gig for $50 shipped. Seemed like a good deal, a standard 16 gig runs about that from Walmart and I've damaged the ones I got there in the past-PNY, Verbatim etc.....

I had one that was there on Friday, but dropped off along with every thread I had in the survival forum over the weekend...  I must have pissed of a penguin or something...

Ironkey is the best one out there. It's the only one approved by the DoD
