Hello everyone!
I've recently purchased some rural land in northern central Illinois which I intend to turn into a weekend getaway spot as well as a BOL. The property currently has no buildings on it. As a result, I am considering the installation of a modular cabin. The particular cabin I'm looking at is the "Rocky Mountain" model manufactured by Spirit Cabins of Colorado. Here's a link: http://www.spiritcabins.com/rocky_mountain_finished.aspx There are two main reasons I like the idea of a modular cabin. First, it can be built quickly and at a lower cost than a stick-built dwelling. Second, my build site is a very nice hill on my property surrounded by fields and forest. If I someday decide to retire to my property, I can move my cabin elsewhere (maybe use it as a guest house or workshop) and build a more substantial home on the hill. My questions are these: 1. Has anyone here done business with Spirit Cabins? I like their web site, but haven't been able to reach them by email and I can't find a phone number listed anywwhere. Obviously, I don't want to do business with a company that's unresponsive. 2. My requirements for the cabin include 1 bedroom, 1 bath and a screened-in porch that measures at least 10x6 feet. Does anyone know of a company that builds a modular cabin that fits the bill? I'm a follower of the "buy once cry once" philosophy so I don't mind spending more for quality. Thanks in advance for any information, advice or pointers you can give me. |
| Well, it's your money. You are paying for convenience and it might be moved to another part of the property. I visited a piece of land a couple weeks ago, a neighbor in the area put up a garage as a shelter. I thought that was a pretty good idea. Set up a garage, with a bathroom and heat. It was kind of a great room/kitchen with a bedroom. A person could live in it on weekends, vacations and Holidays. Then build a house next to it or attached to it as money/retirement comes available. Post pix when you pull the trigger. |
| There are a lot of deals to be had right now with home builders and building supply lots of out of work people that are desperate for work. You could hire a local builder to build you what you want and could still build it so it would be easily moved for no bigger than that modular cabin is I bet you could have it built for way less than there asking and would be more desirable for resale than something that was just wheeled in. Also you could put up a steel building use that for a while until you decide to build the house and use the building for a shop, steel building can be built very quick and for a ΒΌ of what that cabin is. |
