Ok I have a interesting problem. I live in Az and have found a little spot of heaven in PA that is perfect as a summer home or BOH. 1800 sqft house with a small stream running thru it on 2.2 acres. Well wooded and nearly concealed from any neighbors. House is semi rough. Will need lots of work on the inside but the structure is fine. Outside is fine. Has a cherry tree and plenty of room for a huge garden. and or a nice pond!  But it is more then 2200 miles from me. Now would anyone in their right mind buy something like this and attempt a long distance rebuild? Week here, week there?  Uggggg? BTW the propertycan be bought for 30k or less! And is in the middle of the state!

It's' not a problem.  Buy it.  Move!

I'm only partially kidding of course––I have a biased opinion.  While I don't live there now, I grew in Centre (yes that's spelled correctly!) County.  Hunting is still great, lots of state parks, and minimal ups and downs (compared to the nation as a whole) of the economy.

On the practical side, you pretty much sized it up.  A long weekend here and there a week once a year fixing it up would take a while.  And, bugging out (if it is to be a BOL) that distance would scare me––unless you could "pull the cord" and "pop your chute" (I stole those lines from another ARFCommer)  knowing it may be for a dry run.  But I've lived elsewhere––Germany/Georgia––and PA is one of  best.

Where do you think the snow-birds come from?

Well, from PA they go to FLA, but same idea.

You just need to block very long periods of vacation to do the building

well the house on the outside is in pretty good shape. New drywall and wiring in the inside. Drywall needs finished, trim, paint. No big deal. Bathroom is ummmm a mess. New windows in whole house. Needs a new kitchen. Nothing really in it. Oh yeah. No heating system. Has a chimney for a wood burner. All utilities are hooked up to house. Its a interesting find. And I am thinking summer home to escape the phx heat for now with BOH if needed. 1800sq 2.2 acres for 30k or less! Just not sure yet!

This kills me.  I'm in FLA now and will do anything to get out.  This is the worst place strategically and tactically to be in a SHTF event.  I'm in the middle of the state so I have it better than someone in Miami but still.  I'm looking for a 40 acre parcel somewhere up in NC.
