So how many miles is your GHB set up for? at how many miles travel away from home do you start packing your BOB?  how light/small is your GHB? I carry a small bag when I am within 5-10 miles of home. If I am going further I use my medium BOB.

I no longer have a BOB but when I did I had it set up for a 55 mile treak.
I calculated 4 days to get home so I packed accordingly. Pack weighed in at around 45 lbs.

I have a Maxpedition EDC that I take when i'm 50 to 100 miles from home. I figure any closer then 50 and I will be home in a day or two. My bag contains basic first aid, fire, shelter items. The first thing I will do if things go bad is get some food and water then beat feet for home. I figure during the first few days of anything bad there will be tons of confusion and wonder. The looting, rioting and hunger will not have set in to a huge extend so this is the time to get going. If I am going to be 200 to 300 miles plus I will throw my pack in the rig. My pack contains a few meals, stove, fuel, and higher levels of first aid, fire and shelter. It depends on if I am working or off work as to what kind of fire power I have or lack there of.

my edc/ ghb goes to and from work with me (25mi from home).  only has very minimal gear in it. very small FAK/ fire/ water/ para cord/ knife/ stone/ leatherman bit set/1aaa mini led/ a few extra aaa batteries etc.
If I am going any further then work (other then a motorcycle ride) then that stuff mostly goes with me.  even when going to the inlaws- over 100mi away that is all I bring.  So I guess you could call it my BOB... The only time I bring a fully stocked pack/ sleeping bag/ shelter etc is when I am going camping or out of state.

I commute 31 miles one way to work.

I changed my strategy about 4yrs ago i have a small ghb it goes with me everyplace everyday........

Food would run out in two days but the buckmark in it would supplement that if i had to be out for an extended stay.

Pockets only.  I work five miles from home and [with ideal conditions] at a brisk walk from work I've made it to home in in a little over an hour.

I have a locking trunk in my Jeep. I keep my Eberlestock Gunslinger GMH bag in there all the time, as I may travel 2 miles away or 100 on any given day. So I have my survival equipment and food (some mre's and energy bars, and 6 liters of water) Plus my PPS ccw and M4gery with 120 rounds. Depending on the situation I can hit the road home with all or leave behind anything I feel is unnecessary locked in the box.

BOB is always in my trunk no matter if I'm one mile or the 47 miles from home that my work place is found.

EDC only.

If I can't make it 5 miles back to my house with a knife, lighter, wallet, smartphone, glock 19, extra mag and surefire, I'm pretty much fucked.

Everytime I leave the FOB here I have my BOB with me.  Those are all over 5 miles away and the FOB is just over a mile long.  Then when I do travel I got a very got chance of staying somewhere else for several days before I can make it back and have plenty of bad guys around.  Course I do live in a combat zone.

I live in a small town so, no real worry about making it home.  I could get home with just what I can carry in my pockets.

I would imagine a large city would be a little more trouble getting out of.

I haven't really set up for miles, so much as days.  With the amount of food in the pack I can hike for 5 days at 3k calories a day.  I have also included items that will allow me to procure more food if need be, make water potable, but the pack is designed to get me to the BOL, find it burned down, turn around, and come back.... so 5 to 7 days, max.

I don't take the BOB with me unless I'm going outside of town, and even then only when I feel it is warranted.  5 miles, I just take my normal everyday items.  For 99% of my movement away from home, I'm easily able to get back quickly.  My BOB is set up to get me FROM home, to another location.

My EDC for days I'm at work does not include a firearm, either... stupid State Law.  Working on changing that.

If for some reason I'm walking home I'll grab the GHB regardless of distance.  In the grand scheme of things it's probably a small/medium GHB and weighs in at around eight pounds (food, water, fak, extra clothes, survival stuff, nav stuff, etc).  I consider it a half bag...  one day injured / two day healthy bag(1/2).

In my AO I'd be comfortable with the stuff in my pockets for a 5-10 mile daytime or nighttime stroll home.  Shoot, it would be good exercise.  Add E&E and/or light injuries to the mix and the GHB becomes worth it's weight in gold.
