The current weak spot in my preps is Beans. I have some Black, white and pintos but really want to add small red beans, lintels and split peas. I have seen these listed at Costco but the closest one is in Atlanta. Since I do not have a membership and I am not 100% sure they really have bulk beans instock this really is a poor plan. If I was sure I guess I could buy a Costco membership and drive down.
Does any know of any other good places with cheap shipping and reasonable prices for bulk beans? |
| I've looked around a bunch of different places and it seems like Walmart actually has the best selection in terms of different types. I also have a membership to both Sam's and BJ's. Sam's never seems to have much of a dried bean selection. BJ's normally has about twice the selection of Sam's, which isn't saying much. |

Your just going to have to find something in your area. Shipping rates on bulk food are never good. Co-op, LDS canneries, whole food stores, Mennonite Stores. restaurant supply stores, and specialty meg-markt stores. |

I am well stocked on what the LDS can supply. Now I am looking for other items. Has any one shopped the Gordon Food Service (GFS) stores? The nearest on is in Nashville but that is do-able if they have what I want at a reasonable price. http://www.gfs.com/images/banners/store-locator.jpg I HATE GFS! Ruined my favorite hot-dog place when they switched over to GFS. Aside from that, I have found very little there in the way of good LTS food. |

Their shipping is less than $5 regardless of size of order, and they have good variety on beans (and everything else). 25LB bag of small red beans is about $39, lentils and yellow split peas are less. Order a couple of hundred pounds of beans and pay only $5 for shipping... Lotsa other types available as well. They've got a sale going on right now, too - enter the coupon code MOTHER and it's 10% off the entire order. Until the 11th. |

I know there anit no such thing as a free lunch but, Honeyville Grain has the price of shipping built in to the price. They are about $20 per bag more than Costco Business Delivery (not available in my area). |

I buy in 1lb bags.
25lbs of rice and 7 one pound bags of different beans fit real well in a 5gal bucket w/ mylar. the mix and match approach will hopefully help w/ beans and rice becoming so boring I'd rather starve and the ratio is a little better than the 4:1 ratio for a complete protein. Lastly, I only have open what I'm eating, not 30 lbs of beans that have the potential to get buggy, spoiled, wet or whatever before I even finish one bucket of rice. Fc2 |

That would give you access to all of the food that they carry for restaurants, schools, nursing homes etc. But I would call them about that first before I travel that far to be disappointed. I work in the food service and do a lot of ordering through them. If you ever come up to the middle of nowhere Indiana I can order some for you to pick up from me. Just don't tell Gordon's I think they would frown on that |
