Sears has two RO systems.  Am gettting married next month & am thinking about registering for one of the two units they have.  however, it seems that there may be some problems getting the RO membrane filter replacement part, which is irritating b/c a main reason you would get something at sears is b/c you would think you could go & get the parts easy.  Should I bother or is there another RO system that is like the country living grain mills of RO systems that I should get?  Or, is there anoher one that is just a good or better but w/ cheaper replacement filters?

You might want to check ebay or some other online source for you filters and membranes.  We have an undersink Omnifilter ro and I have found membranes online for a third of the price I was paying retail.

most of these things use standardized filters and elements.

I wouldn't be so sure about it being easy to get parts. I listened to a guy yelling the other day in the store who was trying to get parts for his weedwacker. It was less than a year old and he was pissed they didn't have any parts in stock. She just kept telling he'd have to call the 800 number an  have them shipped

Exactly, true for most of them.

And if not replacement filter/cartridge holders are readily available. The units are easily 'customized' with other elements.

If curious, see my topic on RO.
