| I keep a shortwave receiver in my gear. Anyone here listen to one regularly? What are your favorite stations/shows? |

http://www.wbcq.com/. They're pretty cool and have a wide range of programming. Two transmitters in different bands so if you can't hear one you might be able to hear the other. I also enjoy listening to pirate broadcasters. They tend to hang out on 6.925 Mhz and 6.955, but sweep around from 6.9-7. Most of them operate USB but there are a few AM pirates. There's no regular schedule, but there are some forums and IRC channel about them. Send me a PM if you want more info. You never know what you'll hear - some people do music, weird stories, SSTV pictures, talk, talk-radio spoofs, and everything else. |

I think PSK31 is the most useful mode now. I can get decent QSO's all the way from Southern Europe, to Florida, the Carribean, and sometimes as
far west as CA (I'm in Boston). I have G5RV antenna which is crammed into the corner of my yard, not very optimal, but I can still manage to do pretty well on PSK31, even when voice modes are poor. |

Quoted: If you can't find anything interesting then your antenna sucks Might be true. Right now I can hear radio cuba so I get their propaganda. Next I get about 20 different guys preaching their own spin on jesus. Yea that's useful. Then I get a bunch of stations in languages I don't even understand. Now if I go out and get some whiz bang antenna i'll be able to get all the crap I said above X 10, no thanks. Its nice to have for emergency's maybe but ham is where it's at in the radio game. I'll spend my money on my FTA satellite hobby.

You can get the news from a lot of countries, mostly in English. There's always going to be stuff you're not interested in or can't understand. There was an Italian station I picked up a few weeks ago that played slow vocal + accordian music for a few hours. That was cool to listen to. |
