For those of us that missed out on the Deutsche Optic cans and can't wait on the backorder, there is hope. I ordered 6 cans last monday and they were on my porch last night when I got home.
here's the link: cans Hope that link works, I suck at computers. Anyway they are nice cans, no rust on the inside, there are some minor dents, and two of them look almost brand new. They were more money than Deutsche, but at least now I will have a little more peace of mind with winter coming. Appears they had diesel inside. Any tips on how to clean them out so I can put gasoline in them? |
|
Pour in a little gas, shake it up and pour the gas out. Take note of the color of what comes out (repeat process w fresh gas until it comes out the same color that it went in) and if there is any sand/grit/inner-lining that comes out.
Other than that, should be good to go. |
| I hope the cans Colemans has now are better than what they were selling at the end of last year. I ordered a half dozen then, on two the bottoms were rusted so thin you could punch right through them just by tapping on them, the other four were ok but had lots of dents. There shipping is a little on the high side also. |

Came out to just under $150 shipped from Arkansas. They still have some left in stock, but the lady didn't tell me how many. Best prices I've found on the internet in a while. I'll report back when I get them. ETA: I need some extra gaskets and a nozzle or three. Anyone know where I can get a some of both? |

It seems to me he had gaskets and nozzles. Do a search for him. May not have been him,
ETA- GARAND_SHOOTER Knew it was one of those antiquey old rifles! www.oldgrouch.com |

It fits an unleaded filler neck, but it isn't vented so it pours slow. The trick is to find a large/vented Swiss nozzle and then neck the end down to fit an unleaded filler neck. |

Dont waste the time or money, get yourself a super syphone or like .....way way better than a nozzle. I have 3 good nozzles and doubt ill ever usem again after buying one of these. Got mine at northern tool |

I get out of the shower, go out the front door and what do I see? 2 boxes containing these: The five I ordered. No dents or anything that I can find.
Gaskets look good. No rust whatsoever. The insides are the same color as the lip on the spout.
All in all, between the service during the initial ordering, to the price, to the condition of the cans themselves, I must say these are a very good deal. Buy with confidence while you can. |

Just called and ordered some of the Deutsche Optic jerry cans. if you are thinking about this, do not wait. the lady I talked too said the Boss didn't want to buy and bring a container in until he had most of them sold. I was told most of the 2000 coming in are sold the container is expected end of Jan-first of Feb. The 8 cans from the last batch were pristine. |

Here is the link to the gasket page at The Old Grouch. I am going to get some of these, even though they are pricey. Link I wish I could sell them for less, but I had to have them custom made, and that included paying to have the tooling to cut them custom made. But, for the price you are getting a 100% American made product that is made from nice, fresh rubber. I will try to save people shipping- if you just order gaskets I can ship the USPS for less if you ask, but if you add in one my the NATO nozzles the shipping gets much more resonable. |

Can someone tell me why I just bought five gas cans?
I heard today that they're being "banned", so I bought 5 right away. But I'm curious about the specifics...just Gerry cans, or even like the red gas cans you fill your lawn mower with? Link would help. Thanks |

Daddy's very sad. The cheap cans are now Out of Stock at Swiss Army Vehicles. I didn't want to have to buy 5 of 'em at Deutche Optik and $29 each plus shipping is $45 each. The Deutch Optic cans for a four pack were $127 shipped (with a stainless steel spout) $31.75 |

So how is deutsche optic importing this new shipment with a ban now in affect? I don't know. I know the importer that supplied the 5l cans I sell got them through as "oil cans" (and that is legitimate, they were indeed often used for oil), I have heard some others have had containers stopped at the docks because they listed them as fuel cans. If he has ways, more power to him! It is also of some debate if the ban only applies to the import of new cans, or to new and used cans- that issue hasn't been cleared up yet as far as I know. |
