Does anyone pack these in their BO bags? I was thinking of getting some to try out from stayalartgum.com,they offered 100 mg of caffiene per piece of gum . If anyone had tried it, please inform me of how well it work for you. thanks.

That's going to depend on your individual tolerance for caffeine.  100mg is roughly what is in half a cup of coffee?

To put that in perspective, if my wife drank half a cup of coffee at 8 p.m. she would be up all night.  I on the other hand start brewing a 12 cup pot of coffee at about 10:30 every night and I'm usually in bed and asleep by 12:30 - 1:00 a.m.  Those might work for someone not used to caffeine, but I would need something stronger to keep me awake.  I am generally better off with vitamin B6/B12 than caffeine...lasts longer and no jitters...

I haven't seen the gum but it sounds interesting.  I do keep a couple of 5hr Energy Drinks in each of my BOBs and in my hunting packs though.  These actually work VERY well for me to keep me alert.  I can tell when they are kicking in, and they don't keep me from sleeping later when I want to.  You bring up a good point with this that hasn't been discussed much to my recollection, but that should be.  In a SHTF scenario, especially in the opening stages, any of us will be subject to extreme fatigue and stress as we try to deal with an unfamiliar situation.  More than likely we will not have the opportunity to rest as in normal times, so a means of staying alert when your mind and body are screaming for rest could become very important.  It may pay to see if there are OTC stimulants that work for you and then stock up.  Good thought Kenny!

There are also caffeinated mints.  Similar to Altoids.

Caffeine doesn't have much effect on me.  I can drink a liter of Mt Dew and be asleep an hour later.
