I know spare parts for an AR has been asked plenty of times, but I just need a second opinion from you guys. I got about $100 to work with and was

wondering what I should go for. Should I go for a LPK, save up for a BCG or are there other parts I should be looking for? Keep in mind I'm a college

student with a very limited cash flow so I can't buy another spare parts in the form of another AR like most of you guys do. And before anyone says to

focus on food and water, which I understand is more important than defense, I already have a plan set in motion for that so don't worry.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bushmaster has a variety of pre-packaged kits that would fit your budget.

I bought the $40.00 kit, most everything you need. Save for a BCG or just buy a bolt for about $70.00.

the main things I would want to have

extractor with spring
ejector with spring
gas rings (a couple sets)
firing pin
cam pin
firing pin retaining pin (a couple)

fire control parts (less important in my mind but nice to have)
spare gas tube with cross pin is nice to have in the parts box

keep in mind that some parts are intended to be replaced at certain
intervals such as the the gas rings. I toss my extractors/springs at 5,000 rounds.

Thanks a ton, fellas. That $40 kit looks like something that would fit the bill just right. Might have to order two

I have a spare parts kit, seemed prudent.

Brownells carries a variety of parts kits.  Their deluxe one is several of the smaller DPMS kits(IIRC two spring kits one pin kit), plus a rifle and carbine buffer spring and some other springs.  I would go with one of those, half a dozen gas rings and maybe some extra smaller springs.

When looking at individual parts they sell tti, dpms and brownells.  IIRC the Brownells springs are DPMS and they cost a little more than the dpms parts.

I would get the repair kits now and save for a spare bolt or BCG as the smaller parts are most likely to wear before the bolt.

JMHO YMMV

I would go with  a complete spare bolt and carrier key with screws. I have never heard of or seen an actual bolt carrier fail but I have seen and had a bolt fail. Gas rings are always good to have on hand as well as a spare firing pin (with firing pin retaining pin) and hammer with spring for the money you have to spend. I say hammer as I've seen and had a hammer break.

All good info. Will take it into consideration. Thanks again.

The fact that you are even posting this implies you aren't an expert gunsmith- So first choice is a full set of every pin, spring and detent in the gun.  Then a spare bolt, cam pin, and spare extractor.  This should be $100.  I'd want to add a charging handle, which while it probally can't break while firing, can be damaged if left rearward.

This assumes you have enough magazines.  The magazine is the most likely part to fail.

On almost any gun, springs  and extractors fail first.  Firing pins and magazines may or may not be a problem depending on the gun.  Pins, detents, and screws are usually lost by carelessness, but will sometimes work loose while firing.  Front sites can fail from impact, most critical on an unshrouded front site (think glock, or bead on a shotgun)

I would get a spare bolt and rings, fireing pin and cam pin, and a spare hammer disconnecter and trigger, and 3-5 of ever spring and detent in the gun.

some stuff is just never gonna break like take down pins or hammer/trigger pins trigger guards etc.

I'd get a spare gas tube since you could technically bend one and some spare pins for that. also spare front sight and rear signt.
