I purchased several gallon jugs of Klean-Heat as lamp fuel and I have some questions about proper storage.

Will this stuff eventually degrade, do I need to put in an additive? How long is it good for?

It came in plastic containers, should I transfer it over to a steel Jerry Can?

Thanks,

Tom

Is that the stuff walmart and others sell as being a cleaner burning fuel for kerosene heaters?

I would worry more about the plastic containers going bad.

TJ and others have also gotten into specific gravity discussions when it comes to fuel you use in oil lamps vs. wick size and I don't pretend to remember much of it because I took the easy way out and bought lamp oil for the lamps and run kerosene in the kerosene heaters.

I have no doubt it will work in oil lamps but you get into games when trying to get quality light and no smoke and good life of the wick with minimal trimming being needed.

im not paying $12 for a container of that when Paraffin is about $4 a gal. with saying that, i have no experience with the klean heat so i have no idea. paraffin in the lamps and clear K1 in the heater.

Yes, it's supposed to be a cleaner form of kerosene, it also advertises that it is clean burning in lamps. I was going to store this stuff along with kerosene to burn in my lamps and heater.

I got it for about $8 a gallon, I know that's expensive, but I thought that it would be more convenient to only store one fuel for both the lamps and the heater.

I have no experience with Paraffin, does it have a shelf life, how do you store it and where can I get it???? I would prefer to not have to ship it so I can avoid the Shipping charges.

Thanks,

Tom

walmart, ace hardware, hell, just about anywhere has it. we have left it stored in the lamp for years and still work just fine. i have a lamp right now that has been filled up for over a year and it still lights right up. the bottle it comes in will store it just fine. keep it out of direct sunlight because that can degrade the bottle but other than that its GTG in the original container.

I checked two Walmarts in my area and they were a no-go for Paraffin, I finally found it at an Ace Hardware, but it was $15/gallon!!!! I can't believe that you can get it for $4!!!
I'll have to keep looking around.

That's actually a relief!!!  I was a little stressed out that there was such a price difference  , but since this is California it didn't surprise me.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA, check everywhere you can. a lot of stores put it on sale quite often. walmart, not so much but if you have a 5 and dime store check there. mine carries everything i need and even enough parts that you can build your own lamps if you want a couple of lamps.
