| I have made bread in the oven and it's fun, but it takes too much time. I tried a garage sale bread machine and found out why they sold it. Who makes the best bread machine at a reasonable price? |
| I bought a Breadman TR 520 on Amazon for under $50 w/ free shippimg, just about a year ago. I've used in nearly every week (more than 40 times )with no probs and generally pretty good results. It was the cheapest thing on Amazon at time! Operation is extremely simple- just buy "bread flour" for best results! |

We got the Breadman Ultimate TR2200C 5 years ago as a wedding gift. Opened it for the first time last year and I love it. You put all the ingredients in, making sure you put the yeast in last. Hit the buttons you want for size, crust, etc. and leave it. 3 hours later you have a beautiful loaf of delicious bread. It really couldn't be easier. I kneads it, lets it rise, kneads it again, and bakes it.
I figured in a SHTF, off grid situation, I could adapt to doing it another way, or use what precious fuel I have in the genny, just to run the Breadman. |

I have had 3
westinghouse, GE and now cuisineart,, all pretty much the same, main issue in thier death is the belt... I use it as I live alone and can make some quick, quality bread with no fuss or muss in about 5 min once a week and it is 100 times better than commercial product CHEF |

I have the Panasonic one. Makes awesome French bread and sandwich bread. Having a harder time making wheat bread that isnt too dense. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16894100001&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-BreadMakers-_-Panasonic-_-94100001 |
| I got tired of kneading whole wheat bread so i grabbed a cuisenart. Love it. Never had a bread machine so i can't really compare to anything else, but it's really nice to throw all the crap in the little bucket and be done with it. I can still make it by hand and stuff in the oven if i have to, but it's such a chore to do every other day. |

Seriously does work... no bread machine needed, no mixer needed. Its pretty convient... been doing it for a few months now... Buy the book or just google till your hearts content... Check for a resteraunt supply store in your area... trust me there is one... they have NICE pizza stones for CHEAP, plus peels, storage vessels.. well anything really. |

Okay I made my first loaf today. I thought it would be more trial and error. I was wrong, the first loaf was incredible. It came out perfect. The bread is not like anything you buy at the store that has been sitting on the shelf for who knows how long. Prep time was 5 mins. |

I agree about the quality. I made two batches today. The first loaf came out of the oven half hour ago and is almost gone. The wife won't lift a hand to help make it, but eats it faster than it can cool. She, my daughter and I ate most of the first loaf. The other two are proofing now.(8:30) I hate buying that mostly air bread from the store. I figured it would be easier with a machine.
Keep the ideas coming. BTW yeast lasts longer than the expiration date. We have some dated 2008 and it still had kick left in it. Happy baking. |
| think im getting ready to confiscate my moms bread machine. she has used it several times with good results but she doesnt like the "shape" of the loaf. she makes a KICK ASS grain bread with sunflower seeds that i plan on making once maybe twice a week and i can start if before i leave for work and just leave it on days the wife is home. cant remember the model though. |
| I don't like the politics but the NY Times knows food. Do a web search for "new york times no knead bread" then add wholewheat to the search string. This works brilliantly, takes almost no effort and will work with a dutch oven and zero electricity. The health bread book took what was developed in the Collins street bakery in NYC and is available for free from NYT and made it a book. There is a free sourdough version on http://www.sourdo.com/ . |

We use it at least once a week. TexasSheepdog: I have an awesome flaxseed/sunflower seed bread recipe that use about 1/2 wheat to 1/2 white flour. I can post it if you're interested. |

Also, measure the flour by pouring it into your measuring cup and strike it off with a spatula/flat edge. Scooping the cup into the bag compresses the flour and will be too much. http://www.bobsredmill.com/recipes_detail.php?rid=1128 |

I took a pic of the recipe with my iPhone in the bookstore and have been enjoying it for several months as well. If you Google the "no knead" bread recipe its almost the same. |

Flax and Sunflower Seed Bread INGREDIENTS * 1 1/3 cups water * 2 tablespoons butter, softened * 3 tablespoons honey * 1 1/2 cups bread flour * 1 1/3 cups whole wheat bread flour * 1 teaspoon salt * 1 teaspoon active dry yeast * 1/2 cup flax seeds * 1/2 cup toasted sunflower seeds DIRECTIONS 1. Place all ingredients (except sunflower seeds and yeast) in the pan of the bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. 2. Put yeast in yeast dispenser 3. Select raisin bake cycle; press start. 4. Add the sunflower seeds when the raisin alert sounds during the knead cycle. *We replace the 1/2 cup toasted sunflower seeds with 1/4 cup toasted pumpkin seeds and 1/4 cup toasted sunflower seeds. This is our favorite bread machine bread. It makes awesome toast and grilled cheese sandwiches. |

I like our Breadman , but most of the time I just use it on the "dough only" cycle for 2#, roll out two one pound loaves and bake them in the oven. Lots of good info and recipes here: http://www.breadmachinedigest.com/.
Also I've made that NY Times no knead bread and it comes out great. |

Had no flax seed but did have some flax meal on hand. Added 1 t. gluten also as I have found recipes with whole wheat flour can be a bit dense. Also have no "Raisin" option so I sprinkled in the sunflower seeds during the last 10 minutes of knead cycle. I chose "Light " for the cooking level, but will do medium next time as it could have baked a few more minutes. Over all, it's a keeper recipe. Thanks again! |

Try it without the gluten! The loaf that that recipe produces is actually pretty soft. It's a very "light" wheat loaf. |
