I remember a post maybe a month back or so that posted a link to the LDS store. Does anyone here have a link? I tried google, but dunno...
Thanks for your help. |

There's no wally-world.
There are Family Home Storage Centers. I just got back from my first trip to the one near me. Very clean, very friendly people! You can buy a starter-kit, which is what I got today. You can also buy some packed cans if they have them. The main thing going on there tho, is that you decide you need some wheat or something, so you make an appointment, show up, open up a big bulk bag, and put the whole thing into cans or bags, then pay for what you are taking, and put the rest on the shelves. Here is where you find the one closest to you.http://www.providentliving.org/location/map/0,12566,2026-1-4,00.html Call ahead and ask for the Home Storage Center. Ask if they allow non-members, which I don't think is usually a problem. Then you can schedule an appointment. The folks near me were very nice, and they gave us a tour of the place. What they will have for sale is on this list:http://www.providentliving.org/pfw/multimedia/files/pfw/pdf/121874_Fall2009WE_HomeStoragePriceSheet_pdf.pdf It's a great setup. At the one near me, you can even bring in your oen stuff to can, as long as it's 10% moisture content or less. They have the cans, lids, O2 absorbers, etc. Edited to correct second link. |

They have the cans, lids, O2 absorbers, etc. They stopped allowing that here several years ago. Said it was an FDA thing. Stopped doing it here too. Apparently it's considered a 'commercial canning facility' so they can't let in any 'outside' food. You can, however, book the portable canner for your home and do it there. That's how we canned our corn, powdered eggs, Morning Moo, etc etc etc. |
