anyone know of a few websites for putting a generator for back up power for a whole house, we are putting in a bid on a house and I would like to pick on up for emergencies. I have a link for the haouse if anyone needs to the specs og the house.

You can check Home Depot or Lowe's websites.   Also check Northern Tools.

   I have a portable 5,500 watt continous run I purchased from Home Depot three years ago.  It's sufficient to run needed appliances, charge up batteries, or run power tools.

are you talking a portable generator or a "whole-house" generator?  

whole-house backup generators are approx $3-$4k to start out.
