I finally ran across this material at Wally's, is this the stuff your using for tarps? It has the ripstop pattern but also seems to have a coating on the brown side. I put the corner in a pot and filled it with water and it isn't seeping through. It has a plastic feel to it but is pretty light weight.

I dont believe thats the stuff they use, their stuff is thinner and more pliable, that stuff looks like thick wallpaper, lol.

It's pliable and feels thinner than a dollar bill. Very durable too

Yes, I too have a few olts of that material, only mine is ACU...with the black DWR treatment.

You can use it, but it will not be as light weight as the 1.1 oz. SilNylon.  I believe that material is around 1.9-2.3 oz/sq yd.

I am using some of the ACU stuff to do a tipi right now.  Easier to sew than the silnylon as well.  Be sure to use a flat feld seam if you make anything larger than 5X7-8' on length.  (Google is your friend )

Also, mix some GE Clear Silicone (in the weather section at WalMart) with mineral spiritsuntil you get a spreadable consistancy.  then use a 1/2" foam brush to treat the seams....

Make sure to post your results for us to ooohhh and aaahhh over...
