I hate cooking bacon, but it has to be done, this time I cooked it in a crock pot.

This is #3 of ends and pieces, I used some scissors to seperate it into lean and fat, and also cut the fat so
it was no thicker than 1/8", put all of the fat into the crockpot, and all of the lean into the freezer for future
pea/navy/lima bean soup.[ It took 15 minutes]

It came out about 50/50% fat and lean.
I cooked the fat on high for about 4 hours and the crunchy goodness was perfect.

so I got #1.5 great salt pork, 1.5 cups crunchies, and about 8oz bacon grease.

I drained the grease carefully to leave the bacon dust and made pea soup with the dirty pot.
1.5 cups split peas, 1 small onion, 5 cloves of garlic, small hand full of the salt pork, 3 cups water, fresh ground peper
and salt too taste

The nice thing about cooking it in the pot is I don't have to watch it very closely, just leave the lid cracked to let the steam escape
and stir it every hour or so.

Excellent!!

Bacon in a crock pot is not one that I would have thought of, it gives the ends and pieces bags a whole new meaning in life (especially since they are usually less than half the cost of sliced bacon).

Thank You for the idea and the pics!

Cutting the fat from bacon is like cutting someone's penis off and calling them a man.

My mom recently showed my wife how to cook bacon in the oven, now that the only way my wife will cook it!!  She showed her Mom and Dad how to do it and now that's how they cook their's too.  It's really easy with no grease splatter.

I recently started cooking bacon in the oven too, comes out perfect and is very easy.  Crock pot idea is interesting,  may have to try that.

My wife use to work at a restaurant years ago where they layed bacon out in a large pan and laid a baking sheet on top of it then cooked it in the oven.  It came out crispy and flat perfect for burgers, clubs, etc.
