I'm looking at a generator for my country home. I know that the standard is a Honda EU2000i or its brothers, but I need one that is electronic starting. Any suggestions?

If you want to drop the coin for a Honda, any of the larger EU series (3k+ watts) have electric start.
Honda has more models of generators than I can count, they are all expensive, but worth it in the long run if it is going to see lots of use. I have an 8 year old EU2000i with roughly 3000 hours on it, still going strong with nothing but regular oil changes. |

That's my thought. I'm a big fan of buy it right, buy it once. I also like the flexibility of still being a portable generator so I can take it with me if needed.
The one thing I'm having problems finding is anything about doing a tri-fuel conversion on the big ones. |

let me weigh in.
I bought an 8000 watt/13500 starting watts briggs and stratton at a pawn shop last spring. It looked great. Hurricane Ike came through and we were without power for 7 days. After we woke up without power, I hooked up the genny. Ran it about 20 - 22 hours a day. It worked fine. Oh it's louder than a Honda. Well, it's OUTSIDE our you'll die, and don't you want to know if it shuts off? I mean, if it shuts off, either it's out of gas (and you're an idiot for not topping it off), or some asshole is stealing it and you need to kill him/her. DUH. The 8000 watter was listed at the pawn shop for $750. My bride asked if they would take $700 cash. They said yes and rolled the sales tax into to the total, which means that before tax we paid $635 for it. Look around. Buy enough to keep you comfortable. I bought a 100 dollar window unit and an air mattress. We stayed in the den with the two fridges running, the big screeen and dvr running and lights when we needed it;. Also ran the septic system and water well pump. Just a pig tail off the breaker box worked well for us. |

Good point....I am talking about ten acres at least. I can put it a fair distance away. |

As far as hearing it go off in the event of theft? I think that is one one the saleing points of the Hondas (or other) quiet generators. The theives cant hear it to know its there to steal. I have a EU2000, and it is very quiet. If it is running behind my house, you absolutly can not hear it in front of my house.
Just a thought. |
