I was up in my old stomping grounds last week.  I scored 2 Coleman lanterns, dozens of canning jars, there are more jars ready for my taking when I need them.  I've attached pics of the lanterns.  I have a question about the lantern that has the striker in it.  Is the striker suppose to be there, or is it an aftermarket add on that somebody added?  I have models 228 D, and 220 J.  I'm still looking for the manual for the 228 D, it's not on Coleman's website.  Any body got a manual for it?

Yeah, I know I need to burn the mantels that I just tied on, but I'm going to wait till I get a chance to disassemble the lanterns to make sure they are clean and ready to rock.

Pics don't work.

I bought a 220d and a 220h at a yard sale a few weeks ago.  One just needed gas and one needed mantles.  Following the directions on the side of the lanterns got them up and running.  What are you hoping to find in the manuals?

Finally got them to post, after about million times trying.

I believe the strikers are an option sold by Coleman and others.

Striker is aftermarket. You push the striker up to light and then retract it once the lantern is lit.

Nice find.

All brass burner assembly and valve. These were built to last several lifetimes. Enjoy your new lanterns. The old ones have a different sound than the new ones with sheet metal burners.

Lucky me, I have three Coleman lantens now, time to let others share in the weatlh of these great outdoor  light sources instead of picking up just one more at the garage sales. Two of mine have the stainless steel fuel tanks, one is an olive drab color instead of the standard Coleman green. I had four Coleman lanterns, but gave one to my youngest daughter and her husband so they can use it camping with their kids. I imagine I will end up giving away another one to some of the kids or grandkids. These are heirlooms as long as you can find fuel and mantles.

I also have some Coleman stoves, but all of them, except one that was my Dad's, need some work to get them running again. It can be simple issues, like lack of a good seal at the fuel tank cap. Dad's stove has been great, used in my Dad's lifetime, and now for most of mine too.
