With all the talk about rice going bad over time, why not store instant rice. It is already cooked so it should not spoil, and it will cook faster. Any pro's and con's to my thinking?

I've been wondering the same thing lately. This is just a guess but maybe it's a more expensive option....less bang for the buck?

From what I understand, instant rice loses much of its nutritional value in the process of being cooked, then de-hydrated again.

vacuum seal rice and throw in a couple oxygen absorbers, even just vacuumed  up it should last a few years easy if stored properly

I store both kinds, instant and long.  One of my ways of thinking was that i would save so much more gas if i was having to use my propane or white gas stoves for cooking i would use the instant.  And if using natural fire or coals for cooking the long grain.

I store both also.

I also use both, instant is nice for camping/hiking and portable meals. When I have more time to make full meals I use regular. Instant however does not give you a longer shelf life than regular and is just a more expensive alternative. The only advantage is it cooks faster.

You know you can make your own for cheap just by blanching and dehydrating the rice....

A word to the wise: Basmati rice will cook in less than 15 minutes total time if it has been pre-soaked.

And according to our Indian rice connection, Basmati will be falling in price both because of a world surplus production and the falling value of the rupee.

I store regular but I store lots of Lipton Sides instant rice. Both rice or noodles. They are flavored like chicken and brocoli, etc. They cook fast and one pouch with a can of chicken makes a meal for one hungry or 2 regular. I throw in a can of peas or green beans as a extender. I keep packages with the cans in a ziploc baggie to each baggie is a meal. Grab one and 10 minutes you have a hot meal. WJ
