| I'm looking to buy maybe a dozen MREs. I need these for a special occassion that will require energy and high endurance. Can someone suggest the best MRE for my purposes, and where to get them? Again they need to provide lots of energy for high endurace. I'm open to any other suggestions that you may have. |

Comes down to taste, really.
My faves include the Cajun Rice, Beef Ravioli, and Beef Pot Roast. Don't know if you're familiar with MREs, but there's a lot of crap in them that most folks don't eat, and throw away when they're field stripping them to pack out anyways. My suggestion is to go to Long Life Food and order the specific components you want, saving the cash and bulk vs buying a complete MRE. |

Cheese and Veggie omelet!! No where else in the military can you find 124% of daily allowance of cholesterol in one small cardboard wrapped meal!! Read the boxes. Stay away from the pork-rib and the veggie burger with bbq. In my opinion, those are the worst!
Spicy Penne Pasta all the way |

Two tablespoons of water added to an MRE, and then THOUROUGHLY heated, can make most MRE entrees go down a lot easier.
I still don't know what to make of the chocolate beverage powder. Maybe mixed with the grape beverage powder and a quart of warm milk, chugged intermittently with shots tequila could make for a most excellent barf-a-rama pic. |

+1 on the Long Life Foods! I bought some to test, and I like the fact that you can order just the meals you want. In fact I had 1 main and 1 side a few nights ago. The Refried Beans were awesome! But the Chicken in Salsa wasn't too good and upset my stomach a little. Testing is the key! |

Beef Spew
and Spagehetti They have not stuck round this long with out some love. You see they review and have taste tests every year to decide what stays and what goes and those two are the only two still here.. I must say my fave after 17 yrs of eating the bastards was always........ wait for it ........

Beef stew. Smash up the crackers and add those and the cheese spread to it while its hot some tabasco if you dont have the jalapeno cheese. stir it up. Also works with the meatloaf just smash it up before you open it to add the other stuff.
Country captian chicken and chicken with salsa are also good but only hot. If your hiking and want to strip one down the best cold one is the spagetti just ignore the congealed fat it wont hurt you. |

Chicken breast I thought was one if the best it's a lot like the ones you can buy at your local store in the bags so you can pick one up there and try it and see if you like it. Yes it's a little dry but just have something to drink with it and its fine. Also most of the pasta was good. I miss the 4 fingers of death(hot dogs) that was one of the best MREs out there. Other good ones are
Chicken with Salsa Chicken, Vegetables & Noodles Beef Stew Pot Roast Ones I stayed away from country caption chicken, Jamaican pork chop(We use to throw them to the kids in Iraq) Cheese Omelet w/Vegetables and Ham & Shrimp Jambalaya the last one is a 50/50 shot you will get sick as a dog and puke and piss from your A hole or it's a good meal with hot sauce. edited to add: I was told this not sure if it's true or not but after eating MRE for 4 years I think it's true. Some MRE's back you up and others don't so make sure you try the MRE first and see what it does to your body before buying a lot of one kind. We had a guy eat one MRE meal for three weeks and in that time he did not sh*t one time. |
I'm more of a meat loaf and pot roast kind of person when it comes to MREs.
