What one would you chose from the list above and why? |

Noticed you didn't put an AK47 or any of it's varients on there. Not that it would have changed my vote from the AR15, but I'm sure some people would pick it. +1 Ya got a Mosin on there on the same poll w/semi's and no AK option? Strange poll, but I'll pick the AR |
|
I have owned a lot of those and shot most of the rest of them.
From that list it would be an m1a most likely. But in reality it is a fal. I mostly recomend military designs that use magazines to folks. But I can say I expect my finish mosin nagant to keep on going long after I am gone, that is one heck of a rifle. |

The reason there is no AK on this list is because that is NOT in my collection. That is a simple list of firearms I currently have in the safe and all I have room for on the poll. I may have to sell some so I thought that I would get an idea what not to sell.
Yes I know this a AR15,com and will take that into consideration. I see somebody voted Mini-14... Anybody going to owe up to that vote?

+1 Nice rifle and rig. My M1A is the "go to" gun also. |
| Although I personally own an AR15. I picked M14 just because of the larger caliber. I figure it can function as both a solid Semi Auto Battle Rifle, Long Range Rifle and a Hunting Rifle for larger game. But the AR15 would be a close second. If I could only have one rifle though I would pick the larger caliber. |

Anybody going to owe up to that vote? ![]() Yeah, I'm one of the three. Carried a M-1 in ROTC, got the thumb. Carried a M-16 in the Army. I liked it. Now I have a WASR and a Mini-14. The Mini has surprised me. For a SHTF its not a bad little rifle for a old timer. Light-weight, uses a light-weight ammo., It shoots every time, doesn't scare the sheeple. I carried a WASR during Rita, noticed a difference with the sheeple- they were alarmed (including a LEO). With the Mini it was like no problem. That said I still prefer the WASR in 7.62. WJ |

| Ar15 simply because they are so versitle and convertible to several calibers some of which do not require special mags... I have a 10.5" SBR I built that is dead on accurate and small enuff to conceal very easily. Course I'd also have my mossy 500 cruiser slung across my back, just never know when ya might need to blast something open with a deer slug! |

AR-15. It's the platform I'm most trained/experienced with. It's ergomonics are 2nd to none. Any part is replaceable with handtools and can be accomplished by a 3 fingered monkey.
Ammo & magazines are abundant, and I have a wide varity of calibers to choose from. Caliber of the rifle can be changed quickly by swapping uppers, or with a MGI upper by swapping barrels. With a 5.56 upper I can also shoot it as a .22LR for training or even small game gathering by replacing the bolt carrier group with a conversion bolt. Add to the fact it's rugged, extreamly reliable, low recoil (for most rounds) and light enough weight all the members of my family can use it if something were to happen to me. |

I would choose an AK over any of the guns listed, but if I had to grab something else the NRA special edition Mini-14 would work for me. |

I love these threads... this can be debated until the cows come home... I love my ARs.. but there is only one real answer for TRUE SHTF... AK-47 the all around winner. Accurate enough and takes a lickin and keeps on tickin.
According to the Richard Venola, the editor of Combat Arms magazine was quoted on the Military Channel's Top Ten Combat Rifles. "If I had to go to a planet, an unknown planet and I was allowed to take one firearm, it would be an AK-47. When Western civilization melts down I want an AK-47." Camm |

AR15... Have had some of the others but all around the AR is for me. Long range accuracy for hunting and protection. Plenty of affordable ammo , mags and parts. Plenty of knock down power for big game if you use proper bullet. Vmax, ballistic tip etc. Can carry alot more ammo with you as opposed to some of the big bores. |
If the S really H's TF, like Sam Elliot said in We were Soldiers "Sir, if the time comes I need one, there'll be plenty lying on the ground. " So, if you could only have one, train and get good with what will be lying on the ground. At least that's what makes sense to me. That being said, I have an AK . But I smell an AR for graduation.... (Wishin upon a star, may the wife read this and get a bit of inspiration.)

For myself I would go with the AR. I have way more parts, ammo, experience and mags for my AR's than anything else. That and the probable availability of other "sources" for parts and ammo make have to choose it. And my wife and kids would have a much better chance of hitting what they were aiming at with the AR, at least for the 2 shot and any subsequent shots they made. |
