This has been discussed a lot of times, but here goes-
If you are filling with city water, you have some residual chlorine in the water that will be fine for your stored water. It will be fine for years, but it's not hard to swap it out every year or two so why not? If you leave the water open to the atmosphere the chlorine can dissipate, so either plan on adding more periodically or keep a tight lid on it. Plain, clean untreated water needs about 7 drops of bleach per gallon. Reduce this however far you want depending on your own water supply, I don't use any additional bleach in mine. |
