I was hoping for a few more days of decent weather so I could fence in the last
pasture. But the way things are going it might be next spring before that happens. I've got enough hay set aside for the winter. Trying to talk the wife into getting more grain now. What are you all doing to get ready for winter? I've added warmer clothes to my GHB. Set up my reloading bench. I recently moved to my BOL. So I'm going to start on rolling my own again. I'm also looking into getting a generator. Not sure if I want one that'll work off my tractors' PTO or one that'll run on propane or gasoline (maybe a tri fuel conversion). I've got room for a 300 yard range, but the backstop probably won't be ready until the weather improves. I'm also looking into improving my horsemanship skills. Just a newb as far as that goes, but my wife is an excellent instructor. |
| it's a little colder than normal here, but still dry. i'm splitting and stacking firewood, expanding the chicken coop, clearing trees off of the pond dam, digging the pond deeper (it's almost dry) and using the dirt from the pond to build my backstop for my shooting range. |

Sounds like good work. Got your water supply to the chickens heated in some way? That was one of my recent tasks.....making sure the chickens had access to drinkable water in sub-freezing temps. Had to run a tank de-icer out to the hogs too. Just won't do to have thirsty animals. Splitting a lot wood here too.....trying to get ahead of the demand anyway. My biggest upcoming project is to rig up some sort of loading chute for the hogs. I've been procrastinating on doing that––need to at least make a start on it. After that it'll pretty much just be outdoor maintenance and I'll move the work inside. Gotta lot of little house projects that I need to attend to while it's cold. |

We got socked with snow for the last three weeks :
Looking to get some things in and out of the cabin... all the freezables are out but I wanted to get the big generator out too. I need to located the firewoood piles under the snow around the cabin ( we have about 10 cord cut and tarped about 300 yards away but in 3 foot snow I would hate to move it. ) normally we do not get snow until later in the year.... but we average around 200 inches of snow a year... so far we have had about 25% of it fall already :) |

I am crying at the early snow. Being a chimney sweep is painful when roofs are ice covered. I have a bunch of wood that has not been moved inside yet and now I hope it will be dry enough to use. (It is covered in ice right now. It should be dry by Feb. when it is needed.) I store my whole winters worth (3-4 cord) in the garage so it is always dry and available without a blizzard run.
On the other hand, I plow as well. Have already been out 4 times and it seems I will be out more later this week. Wave runners are winterized. Snowmobile is a go with new carbides and belt. All I need to be complete is my SEBR.

Winter came fairly early for us here too... Snow on the ground now... Cleb, that looks like some beautiful country! Where are you (your cabin) located? What part of what state? That's awesome! thanks.... we are in Chautaqua county, which is in the southwestern portion of the state... |
