Just packed up 25lbs of sugar. Can sugar spoil or will it just harden?

it just clumps up. I have about 200lbs in 5 gal buckets and it has clumps in it but they are easily broken up.

You're from UT and think that's alot of sugar?

I've got a big family and am supposed to store almost twice that.   Just bought another fifty pounds last night at Smith's.

I don't have much of a sweet tooth.

I'd probably just make hootch with 200 lbs of sugar.

Not a mormon, in the AF here at Hill. So I am trying to figure how much of each item I need to store for 6 and how long will it last if we have to dig into it.

The church has some VERY ROUGH guidelines on their website regarding the amount of grains per person.  I think they are much too generalized and estimate very low, but they are a start.

I also store for 6, 4 kids from 9 to 4 and my wife and I.  I figured each person needs a barrel (350 lbs) of both rice and wheat for a year's worth of food.  The hard part is getting all the other stuff that makes rice and wheat into meals, and it's the expensive part.

Decide first what your goals are.  We want the ability to live without any support for as long as possible, but that is obviously restricted by means ($$) and storage room.  I figured I eat XXXX calories per day, multiplied that by 6 (extra for the kids, but I don't want them restricted) and added some for tag-alongs.

Just seal it without using an O2 absorber as they will cause it to get as hard as a brick.

Here's a food starage calculator for those interested.

I figure I'm a little overboard.. Just checked my inventory and I have more than 500lbs of sugar in 5 gallon buckets, while I only have 200lbs of salt

Guess I need more salt
