I am ready for winter.
Finished up splitting and stacking 8 cords of seasoned firewood today. I have the propane tank full with 900 gallons on tap. Generators (propane & gas) are prepped and ready with spare oil/parts. 200 gallons of diesel stabilized and stored for the tractor and truck and 30 gallons of gas stabilized and stored for the Polaris and the genny dedicated to my water well pump. Food -check-. Warm clothes and boots -check-. Vehicles prepped -check-. Now it will probably be a unseasonably warm winter with little snow or ice. |

Just an un-scientific study I've been doing for about 10 years now, and so far the findings are amazingly correct. I was told by an "old timer" at work, that if wasps and yellow jackets make their nests high, it is going to be a colder than usual winter. A couple of years ago, I had an infestation of wasps under the eaves of my 2 story house in the fall. What happened that year you ask? 6 inches of snow in Galveston!!! The wasp and yellow jackets have been building up around the eaves again, so we shall see what we shall see. Old people are cool.

I also finished stacking cutting, splitting, and stacking 8 cords of firewood a few weekends ago. It really is a great feeling to get it all done before the first snow (barely). The propane tank is half full and will be topped off to 500 gallons next week. Our Ranger is ready to rock and there several cans a diesel stored for our tractor. Our vehicles both got a fresh change of Mobil1, I do need a genny though (I'm also really going to miss riding my new WR250R for the next several months)... |
