The wife and I prefer brown rice to white rice is there any reason one kind would store better than the other if put up properly?

Brown rice has too much oil, it goes rancid.

White rice keeps for years 8 to 10, brown rice about half a year.

As stated above, however, if you are prepping for the next 6 months to a year, and plan to eat it NOW, pig out and don't worry:)

Toss time white in the back to forget about for a decade, and keep a shelf of the brown to eat on.

Thanks for the replies.  I thought I had heard there was a reason to store white instead of brown.

White rice can actually go 30 years or more if stored properly, such as mylar and O2 packets or cans and O2 packets.  I have both.  This is info from the LDS providentliving.org site.

We are eating white rice stored in 1991 right now- no problems whatsoever.

Always be sure to keep multivitamins and keep them rotated. After a couple of years they start getting spots on them. I've taken them before like this will no ill effects, but I doubt they are as effective.

Thats what I thought that  bags white rice was good for years. I was going to p/u a couple of 50 pound bags of white rice at Costco and the sell by date was less than a year from todays date. Is that just a sell by date or a exparation date?

I swear on a stack of Bibles that I saw an expiration date on a bottle of Windex and a bottle of rubbing alcohol
. That made me loose faith in expiration dates from now on.

I've eaten yogurt a month past expiration and noticed no change (but our fridge sometimes freezes veggies in the bottom drawer)

Also, I'm working on a box on Minute Rice that expired Dec 2007 and it is perfectly fine.
