Rice I know mylar + o2 Dried Beans Flour Grits Sugar Baking Soda Chocolate Bars Corn Meal" In the future, whole wheat instead of flour- Lasts longer, better for you, typically cheaper and WILL last long term. I've stored food since 1986 and EVERY bit of flour I've packed myself has had bugs. Tried bay leaves, all that, I've trashed at least 500 lbs. of flour over the years. That being said, I've got wheat that was just poured into clean buckets from 93 with no problems 15 years later. Grits are iffy, I've had a lot of weevils in them. Cornmeal- same as wheat- buy whole corn next time. You'll note I'm saying "next time" and "in the future"- am NOT suggesting you toss what you what. Get some wheat though, there's a GOOD chance your flour won't be "your flour" in 10 years. It will be the BUGS flour... Pack like we showed you here- Bucket packing videos Here's some long term results from storage food, some of which was NOT packed properly- Long term food storage RESULTS If you have any specific questions please let me know. Do not us the O2 packets on sugar, I did that once. It is still usable, just keep a sturdy knife or ice pick around. Otherwise, sugar stores just fine, seal it up and it is good for 30 years. Chocolate is not something you can put away, it will go rancid from the oils. Same with corn meal. Best for long term storage as you are talking is: white rice whole wheat kernels popcorn sugar powdered milk white flour beans lentils split peas carrots apple pieces oats pasta Best to keep in a dark, cool, dry place. If using mylar, make sure you put it in rubbermaid containers, plastic sealable buckets, etc. otherwise you will just feed the mice. |

I am in the procees of getting everything together for this.I have several HDPE #2 buckets but still need the mylar and o2 absorbers. That brings me to some questions I have;where are you guys buying your mylar?I want to use 1 gallon sized bags. Also, with beans, are all dry beans fine to store this way? |
I got mine here. www.sorbentsystems.com/ I got a box of 100 - gallon size, 7 mill bags IIRC. I have used about 50% of them. |
The ones I was talking about were buckets NOT packed with mylar and o2 absorbers. Early to mid 90's stuff. Mylars and absorbers weren't really "commonly" available till about 96-97'ish |
