Just started thinking about getting some silver.  Called up a dealer who offered $93 for a roll of 50 pre-64 Mercury dimes.  I was thinking of getting a few thousand dollars worth.

Is this a good price?  Anywhere you all would recommend to look?

Should I be getting pre-64 dimes in lieu of something else?

Screw that, but if you want it in your hand be prepared to pay 10-50%+ premiums. The figure for "junk" silver is Face x .715 x Spot.

So $5 face x .715 x $10 = $35.75 worth of FRN.

eta: Apmex is "conveniently" experiencing a server outage, just like every other time silver drops.

PErsonally ive gotten away from "junk" silvers. STick with either ROUNDS or Silver Eagles (if you can find em).

Your kind of late for the dance IMO, but keep looking. I also wont pay the stupid OVER spot prices dealers are asking. Spot prices dont mean much when they are asking 4-5-6 dollars over the spot price.

Right now, id get ammo & mags and firearms. Those are sure bet investments IMO.

$93   no way, that is a rip off.   That would be $25/oz.     I wouldn't pay more than $55 for a roll of dimes, mercs or roos..... $55 a roll would be $15/oz.

I don't think we've seen the bottom on silver.

wait a while till the futures bottom and more tangable starts to accumulate.

It could take several months maybe  more.

Futures prices have become irrelevant for physical, IMO.  That said, if futures fall further, MAYBE the premiums for physical will stay the same and you'll still get a good deal.

I'm happy with my $6.50 - $7.00 stash.

At $10/oz. silver is undervalued. I'd say $12-13/oz. is a very fair price if you can get it around this point.

The issue with buying from Apmex or Kitco is that they list buy/sell, but their sell price is generally $3.00 over spot.  I've seen it as high as $5.00 over spot when they really did not have any in stock.  Go to your local coin shop and buy from there, I've found that you get a much better deal.  Also, if you want a good conversion table try this, go to the conversion link, just put the number of coins you have or want to buy, and it will give you the current value.
