How do you tell if it is real and not faked? I saw some coin that was marked MINT COPY but did not have anything IDing it as pure silver like the guy selling it claimed. I walked away knowing there are fakes out there.

I stick with minted US coins and Eagles.

agreed...non coined silver will also have a cartouche marked at least .994 in order to be considered Sterling, and some US coinage is only 40%.....

Become familiar with what the real article looks like, feels like, sounds like and it will be easy to see the fakes. I have yet to see a knock-off that can't be spotted by the trained eye in under 2 seconds.

Online: Apmex.com; Bulliondirect.com are my go-to locations. In-person: Find a local coin and jewelry store and build a business relationship with the proprietor. You save on S&H costs.
