Making char cloth is a lot like making real charcoal for use in black powder and other pyrotechnic fun. Here's how I make mine (albeit, I make a lot at one time and just save it for later): Materials: --Unlined paint can --100% cotton gauze --Camping stove --Two 1/4" rubber stoppers 1. Stuff the gauze loosely into the paint can. Leave about 2" at the top 2. Close paint can lid reeeeeeeeeal tight 3. Use a drill or a punch to put two 1/4" holes in the lid 4. Place paint can on lit camping stove 5. Once smoke starts coming out of holes in lid, light the smoke on fire 6. Once smoke stops burning, turn stove off and plug holes in lid with stoppers 7. Once can in cool enough to hold, open lid. The black stuff is char cloth. |
