Well, if we don't get some serious rain here soon, there will be big problems for my town.

The town, as well as the paper mill in the center that is the largest employer, draw all their water from the river. When the paper mill was built, a lake was built further upstream to serve as a backup water supply for the mill in cases where the river was running low.

That lake for the first time in the mills 100 year history is almost dry. It looks like the mill will begin shutdown procedures sometime in the next week, that takes about 1 week, After that they are down until more rain comes. The town has not yet implemented water controls, but in all reality there is no reason to. They draw right from the river, so anything not used goes right downstream. You can't save what is flowing past.

I figure we may have 3 weeks of water left if we don't get some serious rain upstream. I will be OK, I have water put back and my parents have a well that has plenty of water left, but some folks will not be as lucky and a lot of people are

Interestingly this is the only county in NC that has no water flowing in, all streams flow out. The watershed area that we need rain in is the southern 1/4 of the county, and so far even when we get rain that area does not. In fact it is raining now...all downstream of the intake.

Should be interesting times ahead.

We have some of the same problems as far as the low water problem, although the local Gov says we are not in a drought, my pond is down almost 16 inches and we have had no appreciable rain in quite a few months.
Hope you guys get some rain soon.

We were in a severe drought for several years here. Many lakes in New Mexico went completely dry and still have not recovered. Much the same for parts of Texas too.

Hope you guy in the West of NC get your rain, but in the South Eastern part of NC we are good.  I gladly send the water your way.  Hope for a Hurricane to come in SC and come to the mountains, no damage just rain.

Bad as I hate to see a cane or tropical storm hit us we really need the rain so I am hoping the rain will come without all the damage. We will see what happens.

Out west its been dry so many years in a row that farmers have turned to ground water exclusively for irrigation. The result of this is many small farms and country home wells are going dry, including mine, as of today

Water is the ammo, I mean, currency of the future.

I'm in Australia at the moment, they have had 13 years of drought.  Dams are at 31% of normal levels.  As a result, everyone has rain water catch tanks to run toilets and water lawns and gardens.  A buddy in the country uses cistern water exclusively in the house.  Has a little filtration to filter out the big chunks, and an RO filter for their drinking water.  The government offers tax incentives for buying and installing tanks.  Naturally slate or steel roofs are commonplace.  Water restrictions include not washing your car except at commercial establishments that have water recycling provisions.

Where in Utah are you?  My uncle's well is still going strong. (not calling you a liar, just curious as to your location)
