Hey Ferdinand.... Did you see Frozenny's post on the price of Propane? Assuming we are on a course to go propane in some automobiles (whether we all know it or not) is there something we can do now to store propane or doesn't it work that way? What did you see with the spikes in propane costs in Argentina? Posted publicly so we can all learn a little here... FG |

I never tried it but you could have a big propane tank with a compressor ( working at 200 BAR pressure) so as to refill your car yourself and have a supply of gas already at your home. This isn’t cheap, but a 40 liter tank ( what you generally install in a car) of natural gas will only run for 100 km, so you’ll be using a lot of it. And you need enough space and security measures. Other than that, diesel cars or at least older vehicles with carburetors seem to do better on GNC than the ones with injection. Still, if what you have is an injection engine it can still be done ( I did it with mine) but the older ones are less sensitive to GNC. Also keep in mind that GNC gas tanks are BIG, you’ll need a big trunk or else there wont be much left after the tank is installed. Guys with pickups install two big tanks in the bed, and that gives you much more fuel. Being able to use both fuels just by pushing a button is kind of cool, so it doesn’t mean regular gas is lost to you, you just have more alternatives. Prices? At least here propane is cheap, and it sure will be cheaper than regular fuel. Here you save 75% by using GNC, so it’s no wonder almost everyone uses this in their car. Gas station quickly added GNC, and now most gas stations offer both fuels. Took a few years but when demand goes up people invest and the infrastructure finally shows up across the country. FerFAL |
