I have a problem, I'm allergic to peanuts/nuts in general.  I keep looking at the meal replacement bars and such and all of them contain nuts or are processed on equipment that processes nuts (warning on the label).  Anyone else have this problem?  I ave been trying to find snacks and stuff for my BOB and this is really limiting my options.  So far I have 3 packs of corn nuts (which I dont really like) and thats about it.

Any suggestions?

Make your own trail mix/ Gorp minus the nuts. You'll have to find some sort of protein/fat to substitute though.  I don't think jerky will  taste all that good mixed with raisins, M&Ms and such.

Try asking on the backpacker.com forums, I'm sure someone there has run across that issue before.

sunflower seed hearts mixed in with various dried fruits and M&Ms work great. There are several trail mixes with fruits and no nuts if you can find them locally

beef jerky, and fruit leather are a killer combo as well as other dried fruit.  polenta cakes the size of cookies are good.

I had to look for this on the backpacker board.

I've eaten these on the trail. (Someone else made them) Rich as all hell, but do the job quite well.  Drop the walnuts.

PROSECUTORS BARS

This recipe you cook at home and eat on the trail.  On hikes with a short lunch stop, or day hikes without a pack, I bring my own homemade energy bar in my pocket. The taste resembles the oatmeal cookies from the back of the oatmeal box, chewy but crunchy. This recipe won a  prize at the Titanium Chef 2002 Backpacking Cooking Contest on December 7, 2002:

Mix the following dry ingredients thoroughly:
1 ½  cup instant one minute oats
1 cup dried banana chips, chopped fine
½  cup chopped prunes
½ cup chopped apricots
½ cup dried chopped pineapple
1 ¼ cup chopped walnuts
1 cup flour
1 cup turbinado sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
3 tablespoons light corn syrup
1 cups pure maple syrup, grade B is best
1/4 cup canola oil

Mix the dry ingredients together first, then mix in the liquid ingredients. Do not use a food processor to chop up the prunes, as you will end up with a big glob.  Preheat an oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9" by 13" metal cooking pan with PAM. Spread this thick mixture into the pan. Cook 50 to 55 minutes. Cool completely at least an hour. Cut into bars. Freeze the bars in sandwich sized baggies for your lunch or snack. If you cut the pan into 6 bars, each bar will have 696 calories

sounds good to me, actually.    I'm not allergic, but I can't stand nuts.  So consider this a 'subscription.'
