I am looking for a backpack that I can use for business and BOB if needed. I travel out of state weekly and have begun to look at a backpack set up vs. the rolling computer bag for sales calls. It seems to be an acceptable trend today in the business sector. Insted of a Taurus or the other laptop friendly bags out their I am looking for somthing that will be able to last in the field and function if put to the test. If I am away from home and need to get back via foot or down size my 22" travel suit case with essentials. I am looking at Blackhawk and Maxpedition but the three day packs are too big and the medic bags too small along with the falcon series. Any suggestions?. I can only go black in color. I am looking to spend between $1-$200 |

Try these: www.kelty.com/kelty/products.php?type=all&cat=34&id=336&image=438 www.kelty.com/kelty/products.php?type=all&cat=34&id=331&image=428 The latter looks like the old Payload I have and it is pretty nice. Both are in your price range. |

I carry a Maxpedition Condor II that i 1/2-ass converted into a laptop bag. I took some padding out of a free one I got at a conference and put it in the bottom, with a cardboard divider between it and the other junk. Laptop goes against the back. It'll only work with a smaller laptop, though (I have a thinkpad X61 tablet, works great). I think if you had a much bigger machine that it might not fit. I found mine at a gun show for $60, so I wouldn't pay the list price on website. It doesn't hold as much as I would like, but it's sufficiently un-tacticool in black that I can carry it around in the corporate culture w/o raising a lot of eyebrows. I do carry a small screwdriver and static bag to remove the HD from my laptop if SHTF so I can dump the weight of the machine but protect the data. |

I would suggest you look at mec.ca (they are the canuck version of REI) for their travel luggage. Their adventure luggage has the most BOB/luggage/business look and function that I personally have found. I was at a meeting in Toronto a few years ago and discovered MEC. I have the Shuttle. It easily passes as a briefcase, has a decent enough capacity for a 72hour bag if packed carefully with high-end, light gear, and the shoulder straps can be hidden under a panel on the back. I has a padded laptop compartment as well. www.mec.ca/Products/product_listing.jsp?bmLocale=en&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302861417&bmUID=1203947671958 I also have their 70L Walkabout travel pack. Lived for 2 weeks out of one in China and a week in Belize. Good pack, comfortable suspension, plenty of space. Zip off daypack works as daypack and okay for smallish briefcase, but not as business-like as the Shuttle IMO. |
