I have been thinking about this for awhile as a topic: What if the SHTF in stages? Not just a boom and it strikes but a multilayered effect of one disaster after another. Multiple layers of erosion to the social fabric of this country. example: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22804065/ (can some one hot link this for me)his I would like to hear others opinions and if others think these could happen. Not everything at once or all together, just the various possibilities, or is my tinfoil on to tight? |
|
Its hot here I actually think it will happen this way, step by step. |

| I think it would be fair to say that many worst case scenarios will start with a significant depression and then inflation. Look at Argentina or Russia. Generally most SHTF's that have happened are not overnight but a gradual deterioration. I wrote about various SHTF situations today on my blog tslrf.blogspot.com/. |

sort of like playing Risk, and suddenly having all the players gang up on you, gnawing away at your one-time solid defenses in echelons until the last player breaks through your frontier and runs wild in the lightly defended heartland? The old, one-two punch that allowed the Muslims to seize Spain from the Visigoths? One: nobles fight king in civil war, and need more troops so they sea lift over an entire Moslem army from Africa to their mainland. Two: nobles use Moslems as their reserve force - but the Moslems have a better idea: they wait until the nobles and king's forces bloody each other and then swept in and wiped BOTH out and seized all of Spain. So, for example the Democrats disarm the American people while preaching PC insanity and empowering illegals.... once the GOP is in complete disarray and only criminals and the gubbmint have weapons, they suddenly discover that not every new face wants to be minions to their one world utopia.... oops. Stranger things have happened.... The Roman's own internal politics and civil wars gutted the Empire leading to population dearth - making the intrusion of the Germans not only necessary but inevitable as there were simply more Germans than Romans.... until again the lightly defended inner empire was easy for the taking and all those roads, bridges, and acquaducts perfect for marching armies to exploit.... We've done the same thing.... bloated bureaucracy demanding more and more money to keep the mob occupied with bread and circuses. Shortminded politicians only concerned for the next election cycle... a population at 2.1 - barely replacing itself all while contracepting, aborting, sterilizing, and fornicating itself into oblivion demographically.... A massively widespread ignorance of the founding ideals and virtues that make them possible.... while keeping the vestiges of the Republic. Like the Romans, we depend on our Navy and a forward deployed military to keep the peace, and like them we established our Rubicon with the Posse Commitatus act keeping active duty troops from the heartland....but like them we too eventually realized the need for a Praetorian Guard to keep the peace. Like them, we have the means to create massively fortified forward bases...but don't do so domestically - no city is defensible....but like them we "don't need to be" but if our Navy ever was downsized or sunk and the forward deployed Army ever withdrawn or wiped out, we'd be easy pickings for an invasion... and while there are alot of police, as Katrina shows, most are simply not equipped for long term hostilities... History doesn't repeat itself but it does rhyme. |
| +1 to a multi faceted SHTF scenario. Imagine what Katrina would have looked like if 9/11 happened a few days before, and the economy was in the state it's in now. We're talking a few events that happened a few years apart happening at the same time. Not so far fetched, is it? |

I have read some privately produced threat assessment reports that warn of terrorists staging for an attack and then waiting for some other SHTF event before launching in order to maximize and magnify their affect. For Example; D.C. does not handle winter weather very well so they could wait for a heavy snow, let the roads become a parking lot, let first responders become occupied with the usual accidents, power outages, etc. then BAM hit the area with an attack with crippled response capability. Another example; Coincide a terror attack on refineries with the arrival of a hurricane on the Gulf coast. |

I am a little more optimistic about Americans. On the whole, we're more practical, kind, creative, ingenious, and better at solving problems than other societies. Sorry, I had to say it. That's why I was not concerned about Y2K, I had very strong faith in American ability to be smart, improvise, and make things work. Another great depression seems like something that is a threat, but hopefully we've put in place some safeguards to help slow down things like the bank runs and stock market crashes. I do think that it's wise to prepare for multiple overlapping disasters though. Like an infectious disease epidemic at the same time as an earthquake or something. Life does seem to throw in that kind of stuff when things get ugly, it never seems to happen just one thing at a time. Unchecked illegal immigration and high childbirth rate of the immigrant Hispanic population may be the most serious long term problem, and I unfortunately don't see anything being done to fix it. |
I do not believe that problem will ever be dealt with unless a legitimate third party comes to power. Those are future voters and both parties want them here. |
Not to be pessimistic, but what makes you think the S hitting TF in stages isn't already happening right now? Iran seeking nukes, Russia flexing Cold War muscles, China gobbling US industry and now natural resources too, unchecked illegal immigration, no decent candidates running for the presidency... maybe tomorrow will be a sunny day and the problems will take care of themselves, but any of the current crises could explode and get ugly. Most airplane crashes aren't the result of an emergency of malfunction. One emergency can be dealt with. Airplane catastrophes happen when two or more emergencies happen simultaneously, or cascade from one to the next, like those huge power blackouts. JusAdBellum - kudos for the Visigothic reference. Here's another history lesson: in the fifth century the Romans had pulled back from Britain. The Roman Britons who remained were being attacked by the Picts from Scotland and the Scots (then in Ireland). The Britons needed help, so they hired Saxons to come fight for them. The Saxons saw that England was fair and undefended... so they conquered the Britons and took it for themselves. |

I sometimes suspect the Muzzies are waiting for a natural or man-made disaster to hit us again with something nasty. Imagine a major Northeastern snowstorm, than add in a couple of Beslan type school takeovers, refinery explosions, etc. An economic slowdown certainly plays their way, making it easier than ever to topple our entire economy.. I wonder what the impact would be if the terrs waited for a snowstorm, then nuked a major Beltway interchange instead of downtown DC. Done correctly, there would be far more casualties and denail of a major north/south Interstate. A one-two punch would be devastating. A one-two-three punch could bring down the administration in power at the time, and set us up for something really, really bad. Ops |

What if Multi Layer SHTF is happening right now? or at least starting: www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,327574,00.html and afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5gULH_YVLscikXd4XzhCNfoOJFVSg news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080204/ap_on_he_me/indonesia_bird_flu_2 and news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080204/hl_afp/healthfluindiabangladesh_080204132252 Those are just a few I found quickly and I am sure there are more. I know things are always happening in the world. I'm just looking for feed back and to hear from others. Thanks |
