San Diego mass evacuations underway, fires intensify in California

he California wildfires are increasing in ferocity in San Diego county.

Wildfires are being fanned by fierce dry Santa Ana winds which have forced the evacuations of over 250,000 people Monday in San Diego County, including hundreds who were being moved by school bus and ambulance from a hospital and nursing homes.

Local NBC affiliate in San Diego reports that with fire spreading quickly westward, San Diego County officials ordered the evacuation of a huge area west of Interstate 15 between Del Dios Highway and Highway 56 early Monday.

More than a dozen wildfires had engulfed Malibu, Irvine, Ontario, Canyon Country and the San Diego area, killing at least one person, injuring dozens more and threatening scores of structures.

Now CNN reports Lake Tahoe in Northern California is also experiencing wildfires.

The fires have burned about 100,000 acres in San Diego County, said county Supervisor Ron Roberts. "This is a major emergency," he said.

"We have more houses burning than we have people and engine companies to fight them," San Diego Fire Captain Lisa Blake said. "A lot of people are going to lose their homes today."

If it wasn't so tragic, it would be hilarious...

My father in law, brother in law #1, brother in law #2, are all being evacuated with little more than the clothes on their backs...  I preach to them to the point of annoying the living shit out of them, and still none of them are prepared

I8, I15, Hwy56, Hwy67, Hwy76, Hwy78, Hwy94 are all closed.  Basically the only way in or out of San Diego County is through I5.

God help those who are actually in danger, and God help the rest of them running around like lemmings...

Why is it there are so many people who know of the seasonal dangers of the areas they live, but refuse to prepare in the least.

I've now heard that I5 may close due to fires moving westward in North county towards the interstate???

I guess there will be no way out of San Diego County except for surface streets, I bet they won't be grid locked...
