So what would YOU have done?  No BOB, BOV, Kifaru pack, no .38, no .22, NOTHING!

Fordguy, Man what a dog, almost big enough to ride.
Dog attack, large rocks, big sticks don't look them in the eye shout commands at them and back away slowly look for tall tree to climb.

With a dog that big I dare say no one will invade your property.

on a side note: I am still looking for the wire.

I was working on a Line Crew for the Phone Company. A HUGE rottweiler was on a chain and he did NOT want us in his AO. He broke his chain and came after us. I was in climbing gear and could not run anywhere fast enough to escape.

I laid down on my back, turned my eyes away from the biggest mean dog I ever met. He accepted my submission and treed the rest of the crew. I then walked over to the truck and got a rope with a snap hook on it. When the dog would look at me walking around I would let out a small whimper and look away. The rest of the guys were still treed.

I then tied the rope to a post and when he walked by I snapped the hook on his collar.

The dog felt that as I had submitted I was harmless. He acted on his instinct. I acted on my intellect.

The owner had been called by the neighbor and was SHOCKED that anyone could tie his dog up. I walked right up to his dog and petted it. I still had to feign submission. If i had to though within a week I would have been the Alpha Male.

interesting story.  I think you got lucky.  Some dogs aren't trying to make you submit, some dogs want you for dinner.

I was hoping it would work as I was 50 yrds from anything that I could get on to get away and I was further hampered by the climbers and body belt.

To fight was many stitches, to submit (Well, to feign submission) was all I could think of in the 2 or 3 seconds I had.

I spoke to a K9 officer that was a neighbor and he agreed that most any untrained dog would have done the same. A trained K9 would have most likely not bit me but wouldn't have  let me up in his opinion.

How dare you, sir!  Molesting a Clydesdale while in uniform is despicable!

Seriously, though thank you for serving and protecting my unworthy butt.

Protect my nuts as his muzzle appears to be at that height or higher.

If he jumped up I would sink my knee in his gut, a classic dog training trick, but he would have no need to jump so high.

Is it better to have one huge dog, or three dogs that eat and poop the same amount?
